If you must. Anything you say willl be fought with reasonable explanations as to how your responsible for your own financial affairs though.

Thanks for that, but unfortunately I am not against a charge if it is proportionate to the losses of the banks. If they profit from a penalty this is unlawful. If they are providing a service then yes they can legally make a profit, I am not in dispute of this, however if you choose to beleive that sending a computer generated letter at a probable cost of 50p or less is a service which should cost us £35 then I am afriad your on a different planet to me mate.

  • I have never had a bank charge in my life, but my mother taught me the difference between right and wrong. If Shell are working UNLAWFULLY then yes I am happy to camp outside shell garages. I work for the bank so I know the bank very well, I know how to avoid charges, i know how we can make huge amounts of money. Please tell me how it can cost 38 quid to administer a return of a DD for 1 pound and I will happily accept your arguments on bank charges.

as has been said.if banks levied a more appropriate charge then it wouldnt be such an issue.
eg i doubt many would argue against £5 for a failed DD for example. i learned my lesson the hard way (over 6 years ago)on charges but know how it can snowball

    Pay manually!!! It's SO simple!!!
  • A basic account will still incur charges regardless, very few accounts if any can claim NO CHARGES whatsoever.

  • And you get charged for not paying by Direct Debit by the company(something you can also claim back as well).

I do love it when someone tells me its cheaper to pay by DD when they are claiming thousands back :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
  • I have never claimed thousands or pounds or pence so Graham please tell me when I have said I am claiming cos it is the first time that I have heard about it? I have not claimed one charge back in my life. Please tell me where my thousands are, cos I think I need to find them!!!

If you do find any place where I have then I will quit my job on Monday morning. I work for the bank by the way.

  • I have to stick my oar in here.

Until we came to England we NEVER had a bank penalty charge, we had a triple A credit rating. Two things happened to us.

Regular salaries paid in, but the bank processed the debits before the credits, what a neat way to make money; when I queries I was told very smugly we do not have process the credits first. If this had been done there would never have been on penalty charge, and not letting FRAUD be perpetrated and then have the hide to treat us as the criminals until we proved our innocence. We found this out when I went to pay for groceries with my DEBIT card and found the card stopped. they stopped the card after a MONTH of unusual movement. Not once in that month did the bank concerned try to contact us. During this time they bounced our DD's and charged us penalties plus interest. It turned out to be an inside job. You have the hide to say people are responsible for their own demise. For twelve months we have been trying to get our lives back in order and I will NEVER trust a bank in this country again. I pay everything manually and get penalised by the utility companies who want me set up a DD, I get penalised by a company who has computer systems which do not update regularly and they try to slam me with £22.50 each time, claiming it is a late payment (Clydesdale Financial Services, so far they have hit me £135.00 which I will NOT be paying), thank goodness I have the authorisation numbers when I make the transaction over the phone and the date the transaction is authorised

Getting back to our original mishap with the bank, it was an inside job and they closed ranks when I threatened to bring the police in to investigate.

Final insult to injury, they closed our account because I insisted on making a reclaim, so the FOS awarded us £200.00. I have not finished with that bank yet. I have another claim in because we had to take out a loan because of their charges, so I am, now claiming back the interest and costs charged on this loan.

Don't try preaching to me about fiscal responsibility. Some of us are not the authors of our problems. It is the very institution you are so proudly upholding.

Bitter? - you want to believe it.

My mission now is to have every penalty charge levied brought back into the realms of the true cost it takes to administer and not a penny more. Any money levied on me, taken from my account or added to my account with punitive interest I want back at the same rate or even at AOP. I am not settling and never have settled for the statutory 8% County Court interest. I am out to hurt them as they have hurt me.
    What do I know?

A savings account used for paying money from salary or benefits in will never incur charges as it will be impossible to take out money you don't have.
