TalkTalk clawback

In February this year I changed my mobile provider from Orange to TalkTalk,
and to take advantage of free mobile calls to landline TalkTalk phones I
changed my landline provider to TalkTalk too. I use pay-as-you-go as I don't
use my mobile often. I topped it up by £20 in September, but to my surprise
found last week that I was out of credit.
I phoned the service centre and discovered 'clawback', something I had been
unaware of. I also discovered that over the last few months a considerable
amount of money had been clawed back. £26.86 out of a £30 top-up in April,
14.89 out of a £20 top-up in June and £15.39 from a September top-up of £20 had been clawed back.

TalkTalk website says: 'Pay As You Go phones are the perfect option for people who don't use the phone very often' .This doesn't seem to be the case, and clawback isn't mentioned on the site..When I bought into TalkTalk I was not informed about clawback. If I had been I wouldn't have signed up to it as I seldom use my mobile phone.

I have emailed the CEO and said I would like a refund of the money clawed back - a total of £57.14p, as I was mis-sold the phone.
Other people must have had this happen to them - I'm surprised I haven't heard of it before. I'll let you know what happens next.

No doubt it was in terms and conditions of use which you were shown but didn't read in much detail.
  • for the most part these complaints by people who come on and start accusing companys of deceit, could be prevented if people read the paperwork that comes with things

terms and condition pretty clearly displayed on the website and also on the paperwork that comes with the sim card, see below for specific part that deals with clawback,

*There's no contract or minimum term for you to worry about, so you're always in charge of your account.
*All you need is an active TalkTalk Landline account.
*You then pay an additional £10 charge every month which is added as a *top-up to your TalkTalk Mobile. All credit on TalkTalk Mobile expires after 60 days.

I agree wholeheartedly. However, it could save Carphonewarehouse a lot of wasted human hours (hence money) if they made their services more consumer friendly - than carphonewarehouse friendly. The clawback is just a way of maximising profits at the expense of the consumer.

But personally I say if you don't like all aspects of a service, find one that suits you better and doesn't claw back.
