Using a Humax Freesat HD PVR without a dual LNB?

Quickish question:

I am really pleased to be getting a HUMAX FREESAT HDR to replace my old Sky box, which I currently use without subscription on an old single cable connection.

I know I will need a dual LNB thingy fitted to my satellite dish in order to be able to watch one channel and record another, and I plan to have this fitted later in the year, following some other higher priority DIY projects.

What I want to know is - will I be able to use my HUMAX box in the meantime, as long as I only want to watch/record one channel at a time?

The reason I want to use it now is to get iplayer through my living room tv and, if it is possible to do that in advance of getting the dual LNB thingy installed, then I will order the broadband-plug-in-adaptor-thingys to enable the iplayer, asap.

(I hope this question makes sense - I know what I mean but, not being a techy by nature, the correct names for these things elude me 5 minutes after reading about them! :D).

Thanks in advance!

Yes you can us the Humax with a single feed, if you loop through from lnb input from 1 to 2 you can still watch one channel and record another but they must be the same polarisation and on the same frequency.

All will be explained in the manual.

A bit pointless having a Hummy PVR if you can't use the twin tuner capabilities though, fitting a quad LNB and twin feed is probably no more than a 30 minute job.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Yes agreed, but I am getting it as a gift so want to use it now and will get the quad lnb fitted when it is convenient.

I am having other work done on the house right now so it is not convenient or appropriate to do the cabling first. :)

Also as I live alone and don't watch loads of tv, the twin tuner capabilities are less important to me than the ability to get HD channels, iplayer, and the ability to set the recorder to catch the end of programmes if I want an early night!

    Thanks for the advice though!
