Spray fence paint - can you use it with a brush?

My local Focus DIY had Ronseal Sprayable One Coat Fence Life for half price (down £6.49 I think). I was just wondering if anyone has ever used it with a brush rather than a sprayer or is the consistency of the paint too runny?

  • I've used it with a paint pad before if that's any help. Because it's a bit runnier it's a pain in the proverbial to use with a brush, but the pad soaks up the runny paint and works much better.
One of these kind of things:

Surely using a paint pad on a fence will rip the pads in no time they do on textured ceilings

The product will be quite runny personnel I would rather use the right product for the job and do it the old fashioned way its proven to be very effective ie fence paint and a brush
  • Thanks everybody your replies were helpful.

will a garden sprayer type thingy not work? like the ones in the poundshop? would save paying a fortune for the actual ronseal unit.

    basically the same thing..

I'd think twice before using a sprayer - see this thread for starters:

I believe that spray paint is thinner and therefore will run more. The pads (and possibly paint rollers) seem plausible but would probably get ripped to shreds on the rough surfaces. Maybe if you painted in one direction it would help?

It sounds like it might be a false economy to go for the sprayable paint though.

I did see that thread too, totally put me off sprayers. The last lot of fence paint I got was £5 (last year) from asda and it was great. hopefully they will get more in soon.
