If your not bothered about a 2 door variety type car, then for sheer fun,and the history of it,then a MK2 Escort RS2000 gets my vote.
Rear wheel drive,Pinto engine,developing a scary (???!!!) 110 bhp,in standard form,and a car that's still sought after,25 years after production ceased.
Or if that doesn't tickle your tastebuds, then there are plenty of other x-flow engined Escorts, like the 1300/1600 Sport,Harrier,Ghia, and early Mexico's. (Later Mexico's had the similar Pinto engine as the RS2000.)
Or if you really pushed the boat out, then a second mortgage will get you a MK1 Lotus Twin Cam,or the ultra rare MK2 RS1800.
A friend of mine a few years ago,had a Mk2 RS2000 in green, and we used to travel all over the country marshalling, when the RAC rally was on, (That's when it was a PROPER rally.) and 4 of us used to travel in that car,and the noise of the exhaust was something else.
Memories........

What about a classic mini cooper? Has proper back seats and goes like proverbial off a shovel. Personally if I would get a roll cage fitted so you don't die in minor collisions.
If you like VW busses (and can live with slowness) then hows about a bug or even be a bit different with a 2CV.2009 wins: Signed Saxon CD, Solar Torch, Drumsticks, Priest Feast Tix, Watch, Hammerfest tix :beer:0 -

Thanks every one we evetually bought a Simitar GTE p reg i think.OH loves it but until we sort out how to get a diaginal belt in the back for the childseat,im the one squashing in and out of the back.(how do we do it?)
I think it looks good but still not sure for a long term option.
Now we need to get the belt sorted quick so we can get the escort 1994 1.6LX sold.As we are running two cars not goos for the purse strings.0 -
Interesting thread. Its not totally clear what your requirements are - I'm guessing its just something quirky that you want?
How about an old Audi?0
