knocking sound while turning corners

  • ok i have checked the cv joints and gator and there is no sign of leakage and very very minimal play, but what i did notice is when the car is stationary and the wheels are turned right (full lock), if i bounce the car up and down on the n/s/f area i can hear a slight knocking noise that seems to be coming from the top of the suspension area, its a lesser noise than when driving but its similar.

Could be either the spring or the shocker that's worn or broken.

when you bounce the car then let it go, it should settle within a bounce or two....if it carries on, then the shock absorber is worn out/damaged. The other thing to do is get someone to watch you drive the car or follow you....they'll see the wheel bounce up and down and leave the road if the shocker is done.
The spring, assuming it's not covered by anything, is easy to check - have a look and see if it is broken. Is the car sitting at a different height ie lower on that corner?

CV joints are typically more of a clicking sound rather than a thumping or clunking sound - more high pitched if that makes sense.

Anti roll bar bushes or drop arm.
  • ok i will do that i did check the shocker spring this morning but was a brief look as its raining like mad so will take better look when weather is better, but on the bouncing matter it setttled well no different to other side, i was wondering if it could be the top bearing.

Top shock mount is probably worn

French cars are more reknown for being whole shafts, rather than just the CV joint, so I hope for your wallet that it is not required. Unfortunately it sounds like it, but as said above, could be suspension or even the hydraulics of the suspension.

    £25-£35 For NEW CV Joints..........

With it Jacked up you'd feel play in the CV Joints... up and down side to side.. You'd just know it was wrong if you get me;)

TBH all of the above mentioned.... ARB Bushes Droplinks Top Mounts could all cause the knocking problem problem..... Most awkward would be the Top mounts as it would mean dropping the strut.. But still easier enough.

I have 2004 Berlingo which shares some of the same components.

Over the last 12 months I have had to replace both anti roll bar links. This causes a knocking noise, although I would expect they would knock over any bump and not just when cornering, although mine started off as a very slight tap noise and got worse. It's worth checking them. The top joint is at the top of the suspension, so it could be that one that's worn.

I reached under and with a firm shake could feel very slight movement. New ones are about £10, but it's recommended you repace both sides.

sounds a bit low that price for new a CV joint

My colleague at works Laguna (w reg) had a worn CV joint.

I replaced it last week for him and the CV joint itself was £85 !
