to improve Broadband stability & increase line speed. Does this need to be removed from the other end also or just from the "main socket"?

If we are talking of wire on terminal no 3 personally I would remove at both ends. I suppose if you only remove at extension end is not that wire still live?0

to eliminate the possibility of induced noise, remove both ends.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

re-reading, if you disconnect at master socket end then it must be dead.0

It doesn't connect to anything at the extension end if there is a filter in place (which there must be if there is a phone) as filters only connect to 2 + 5 and if there is no phone it obviously doesn't connect to anything.
So the answer is master end only unless you are bored and enjoy pointless work.0 -
to eliminate the possibility of induced noise, remove both ends.
Doesnt this then leave that wire floating and more likely to accept induced currents and thus inductively transfer them onto the other wires?
Surely it should be connected to a signal at one end so that it has a specific potential on it and less likely to accept stray currents from elsewhere?0 -
The reason for disconnecting the ring wire isn't to prevent transfer to the twisted pair in the extension it is to stop any noise picked up by it being transferred to one leg of the signal pair through the ring capacitor in the master socket. That's why it is disconnected at the master socket end.
Of course the twisted pair also picks up noise exactly like the ring wire does but as both wires pick up the same noise it is in effect self cancelling. ADSL routers are designed to reject common mode noise pickup. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common-mode_interference0
