british gas quote for new boiler

QUOTE IS £3097

instillation of worcester Greenstar 15Ri boiler, to me moved to a different location in the same room ( small amount of additional pipework), instillation of thermostat, 1 year home care cover, filling up the gap where the previous flue was, and disposal of old boiler. and a power flush.

what do you think, and is the power flush neccesary as its £555 ?

British Gas are usually very expensive. Get a couple of local firms to quote you, and I guarantee they will be a lot cheaper.
  • I would also question the 1 year home care cover. Why would you need that if it's a new boiler surly it will come with at least a years warranty anayway.

Im no expert but i had a new boiler fitted only yesterday and when the system was drained the water was crystal clear so no need for a power flush and the engineer instaled a magna clean to the system.

Crystal clear water on draining down is not always an indicator that the system is clean.

I have done several boiler swaps where this has happened, only to find when I powerflush the system, the chemical cleaner has loosened loads of sludge and the water is then black.

Good point, I have a Worcester Greenstar and it came with a two year warranty.
  • Fair comment gas4you. Engineer must have spun me some waffle
  • British Gas will always be more expensive than a one man band. they have much bigger overheads so what do you expect.

With british gas you expect it to be done properly first time and have the back up and support if anything goes wrong. the price will also never go up even if a problem occurs during installation.

Check the T+C's of boiler warranties also - most will not touch your boiler for water part failure if you have not have the system powerflushed. If they find sludge in the boiler you loose your warranty. BG also guarantee your powerflush for life as long as you keep a homecare agreement running without breaks
  • Hi,
    I have just had a quote £5,806 today from British Gas to install;

New boiler (Worcester Greenstar 28i Junior) in a different location and they will take away old boiler and water cylinder etc

11 x Radiators (Stelrad Compact K1) fitted with Thermostatic Valves

    Power Flush

    2 Years Complimentary Homecare 200

Don't know if this is a good deal or not, 2 x other local family owned companies coming next week to quote

The 11 rads are pushing your quote up by around £2500-£3000 and if you are having 11 new rads you dont need a powerflush (are you sure its not a power 'cleanse'?

a powercleanse is a cold and hot drain down and re-inhibit to clear out all the chemicals and harmful flux's from the installation process

Good evening: the Junior is WB's entry level combi i.e. cheapest with the fewest features. Quotes from the the two independents should be cheaper...make sure you compare the quote like for like. I assume your mains water pressure/flow rates have been checked to see if a combi is a viable option and you have 1 bathroom. More here.
