MMMMMMM renault
i bought a used ford focus from Renault dealer a year ago, 57 plate 6k
yesterday got a call from Renault dealer asking if we wanted a newer car for same money or less for our focus.
so we went in today, they basically offered us a 59 plater new shape megane with everything on it, leather, climate control, keyless opening and start, bluetooth etc had on there court for 9.5k
they said well you have this and we have focus, they bought focus from us for 8.3k and sold us the megane for same money.
is came with free tax, and we get all the extra warranty and gap.
the deal is basically over same term, i think 3 months were added to the deal to cover the new vat.
so we will have to pay an extra few quick to cover the vat but other then that straight swap.
i asked the question why do this, they said we have new manager in and he wants to get his best customers into newer cars for same money or not less. the guy that sold us the car 12 months ago left tuesday for new job and they pick our file up from him.
do we need to be suspious?
i have gone over all paperwork with fine tooth comb, the apr is lower and total price is the same as we owe now.
ideas as to why

Cynic in me says it's a lemon -- there are a LOT of bad Renaults around.
What amuses me though is how on Earth does a 3-year-old Focus get to be worth £8000. I paid £3500 for a 57-plate Focus last year.
Very suss.0 -
Look very hard at the small print in the Finance agreement, the dealer's making their money somewhere, they're not a charity.
Is the APR variable or fixed?
Are you sure you are buying this car, will it be yours when you finish the agreement or will there be a nice surprise of a final payment of £5K to find.
If it's all above board, enjoy your car.0 -
sounds dubious for obvious reasons
or could be
overstock
a lemon
or they want to keep a customer in a renault and recoup money at service time0 -
OP has subjected himself to the VAT increase anyway so theres some profit for them. probably a SOGA return.0

Even though they're a Renault dealership, that 3yr old Focus will be easier for them to sell than a 1yr old Megane.
Edit: Less likely to have any big problems 3 years down the line too.0 -

They'd find that out when the V5C is covered in tippex surely? (or like the one for the car I traded in twice, bits scored out etc :rotfl:)
Right to be dubious about the deal though - that Focus has got to be worth less than £6k retail now surely?0 -
Just noticed something:
"he wants to get his best customers into newer cars for same money or not less"
Have you had any dealings with this company, other than you once bought a used non-Renault car from them a year ago?0 -
Unless "best customers" means the ones we stitched up into massive finance agreements a year ago and want out before FSA catch us? :rotfl:0
