I have heard this a lot in my prev career in call centre management, I also know it was applied fairly. (I cannot think of any company that would allow management to distribute bonuses to their friends..!! ) You might not like the criteria, but I bet they are there.
  • Well I dont find the last two comments very ignorrant of what I have been saying. Maybe you have made your minds up before even reading the thread but I know for sure that myself and others are doing very similar things and getting very different bonus's. I got a better bonus than one of my friends and its not fair on him as we have done similar work but for some reason I was favoured. I dont even want or care for a bonus after seeing how bad they are distributed, bonus's given to people who's ''face fit'' if you will.

Last year one gentleman was given no bonus, he was shy and the management thought he would not kick up a fuss and they can use his money to go to other people. Well that gentleman appealed and was given his bonus within the next paypacket. So that shows that the management in my department are upto no good with bonus's.

  • I work in a call centre for a bank and received my bonus today, I wont disclose it just yet but I am disgraced by my bonus.

The biggest disgrace of my bonus and other people's bonus' are the fact that we are told not to discuss each others' bonus' because its an obvious way to cover up their distribution of bonus' to people who are favourites.

Is there a law in which I have to keep my bonus secret? Because I feel like pinning my bonus up on the wall at work!

(I must also stress I work in one of the very very few bank departments where we are not targeted for sales )
boo hoo people got more than me.
    ungrateful!!!!!!
bonus for bankers and banker workers should be given to local councils due to cuts.
go brown nose manager for a year and get the bonus you need.
Better still have a boob op and sex change to female. that will earn you £££££££££

That is an extremely ignorant post! You have seen that I work for a bank and set your agenda immediately.

I work in a more technical aspect of a bank, I dont rip off old granny's by selling them loans etc for a bonus, I specialise in getting people's bank card's working again when they are abroad etc.

Anyway, I couldnt care less about my bonus! I do my job and getting paid at the end of the month is what I look forward too.

The problem which my thread was originally highlighting was an issue with discussing bonus', because 90% of my small department do exactly the same work, yet some people have got bigger bonus' than others. I have been paid double the bonus of someone else who has done the same job as me, there is no possibilities that they do less/more than me because I sit with them everyday and I am good friends with them.

I am trying to fight for some kind of equality or at least some transparency with bonus' because my department has a history of mis-distributing bonus'.
  • It's not uncommon, I used to work for a large IT company and we were forbidden by contract to discuss what we earned. Divide and conquer

Your department has a history of awarding bonus payments as it sees fit. If it's a very long history the situation has been fit for purpose if it hasn't been challenged. Do you really want to be the first to do so?
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Fair enough mate. Its just a shame that it has divided or at least created an atmosphere in my department for the short term.

I did not know where to put my face when my friend said he only got half of what I got, we do exactly the same as the other. Me and him are going away for a weekend in april and I have paid for our hotel's as a bit of a gesture to ease my conscience lol. Wish the management could be questioned infront of the whole department to explain why IN SOME CASES people have got more than others when doing exactly the same.

Well I am going to see the union tomorrow etc and see what I can do. But I see what your getting at mate, as strongly as I feel about this, I wont risk my career for it.
  • I used to work for LLoyds 24years ago and we were all paid a bonus even back then, everyone got one. They were based on job and length of service. Does lenght of service not still count and could this be why they are different?
