Tesco Wine

Was very pleased to see that Jacobs Creek Sparkling Shiraz is on special offer, on Tesco Wines, so decided to order myself a case. Absolutely furious that the minimum order is 12 bottles for wine, or 6 bottles for champagne! Why? I don't want to buy 12 bottles of wine in one go. Grrrrrrrrrr.

    It used to be.

A lot of suppliers now refer to six bottles as a 'case'.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.

A case is 6 on their website, yet they make you buy a minimum of 12.
  • wow, that stressed over something like that?
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

  • Because it is on special offer, they have obviously reduced the price and due to this they may not make enough profit on the sale of only a couple of bottles to cover the costs involved in processing the order.

The buyer pays for postage and packing, but there are other costs involved such as filling out and printing the invoice, or the credit charge fee they pay the card issuer.
These extras may only be 50p in total, but if they are making 25p profit on each bottle, then it's not worth their while selling 1 or 2.

This is on the wine section of their website, not the grocery department. They've sold wine by the case of 12 for a long time now, whether or not it's on special offer.

HAs you said they are on special offer, You dont have to drink them all in one go. I tend to buy the wine on special offer and 12 bottles seems to last me 3 months (guests etc).

Majestic counts six bottles as a case. So do many other wine specialists.

Tesco doesn't really count anything except the profits it makes from people gullible enough to buy from it.
  • The minimum number of bottles has been 12 for at least a couple of months. The minimum spend was £99 for free delivery a couple of weeks ago. I suspect the minimums vary a fair bit. One bottle broken in a case (6), they phoned and credited £10 - bottle worth £6,50. I have been very pleased with their mixed cases, which have included some exceptional wines. Only made the two purchases but will definately buy from them again. The champagne offer does look rather good, might buy with a couple of friends.

    The solution is simple.

If its not a web-only offer then get down to a store and you can buy as many as you want.

If is, then you have to buy 12 if you want to take advantage of the offer. No-one will force you to drink it in the same time as you would normally drink 6 bottles of wine.

If you don't want to buy 12 then don't.

    Simple really isn't it?
