get help from the cab..this is too important for you to be dealing with on your own..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
It's very hard to explain without going into too much personal detail but it's the family that she currently has around her that she needs to move away from because they do her health no good at all - it's a long winded personal situation that i don't want to go into tooooo much but basically she needs to be living with someone that has her and bens interests at heart and can help them both to get the best from life instead of "sponging" from her and abusing her position. There are no services local to her that can help with that because she isn't assertive to accept the help - hence she just needs to move away and start afresh.
I have tried with local charities and no one seems able to help with our particular situation - hence why i was left with no choice but to look for private rental for a year until she is eligible for council property in this area. I'm at witts end - I really want her close to me so I can improve her life and help her with ben
I have just asked about bens social worker and apparently he hasn't had one for over 6 months because they come and go and he has never been reallocated one - it's all such a headache. I just want her here so she can start a new life and start getting healthier again (she is very overweight with major obesity related health issues which are accelerated by current family members just taking advantage and not givin a shi*e!) excuse language - I'm just so passionate about this

Although your intentions are admiral, you are not doing things the right way.
If she took a private rental and then the landlord wanted the property back, what would you do? How would you guarantee finding a new suitable property at short notice?
I wouldn't assume that a council property would be available after a year. At that time she would be eligible to apply, not to get. As she would be in a private rental at the time she wouldn't be a priority as not homeless. If she was made homeless the council would house her in temporary accommodation which could be a B&B or bedsit. That would not be suitable, but the council do not have vacant properties lying empty. So you run the risk of her moving twice and having to cope with temporary unsuitable accommodation.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. What else donindo? I just don't know - I appreciate what you are saying but her quality of life is slowly deteriorating being around these members of family and I just need her away.
Thanks for everyones advice. I don't know what other option to take0 -
I agree with silvercar. She won't necessarily get a council home once she's been in your area even for a long period. It could even be frowned upon by your local council for her giving up a council tenancy in another area.
Does she want to be free of these family members herself? If she's in your area, will she really be free of them, or will they still be in contact?Proud DFW Nerd #62

Might be worth checking with Shelter about your nan's rights and if there are any options for a move into social housing nearer to you.
Have you looked into a mutual exchange? Have you contacted all the housing associations in your area or is all the social housing controlled by the council through a choice based letting scheme?
As indicated before, it is a very risky strategy to assume she'll qualify for social housing after being in the area for a year - if she's got accommodation, she's not actually in any housing need so will be low priority for social housing! I can't see her becoming higher than a band D unless there are other changes in circumstances when she is a private tenant, so she'll probably just be stuck in private housing.0 -

Is there quite a distance between your nan's and your area?
Because she seems to have relationship problems with relatives, and moving away doesn't resolve many issues and won't resolve it at all if they can easily visit them in the new place.
Also, are you sure that distance is going to stop some of the issues that you are alluding to? If they are being controlled by exploitative family members, what's to stop them doing this by telephone or letter? They are hardly going to let a cash cow simply walk away, are they?
Get that missing social worker in place - they should be resolving these issues.0 -
I live 100 miles away so yes she will be rid of them - they obviously will visit etc but it's the day to day exploitation I have to get her away from - and yes she wants to as well, I certainly wouldn't be doing all of this if she didn't
It's the local housing authority that have told me after my appeal that this is the only thing i can do to up her priority on that list hence why I'm doing it - I'm aware she won't get a property after a year but at least I can start to get the ball rolling after then. Iv been renting for 3 years in the same property - but I know in current climate it's so unreliable - but I just have to weigh up the risk of her current situation
It's so hard :-(0 -

He wouldnt know what he was signing, and cannot "sign" anyway, he just writes a big backwards B when you ask him to write his name. They both receive full disability living allowances and my nan receives pension credits and carers allowance for Bob.
The lettings agency are having to look into it as a legal matter as they wanted to reference Bob because he is 30 years old (...)askmeafavour wrote: »I really want her close to me so I can improve her life and help her with ben

Call me cynical, but I think this is a wind-up by someone with far too much time on their hands... Apart from the totally unrealistic situation (POA etc never even coming up in 30 years???) "Bob" mysteriously changed name to "Ben" after a few posts... If this really was OP's Nan and adoptive uncle, you'd think they'd at least get the name right?0 -

It's not that unrealistic - my brother is a similar age, also has severe learning disabilities, and thus far my parents have managed to get along without involving the Court of Protection.
I'd assumed that the uncle's name is neither Ben nor Bob, but that the OP was making a bit of a hash of protecting identities
