Scamming- Company CCS Premier Ltd

My son brought a second hand car from a private dealer and 2 months later the engine blew up. He ordered and paid for a second hand engine from a Company called CCS Premier Ltd over the internet. The engine was supposed to be delivered each day this week but now the company are not answering the phone. They are registered on Companies House as a new company from Nov 10 with no filed accounts as yet. The invoice they sent through in advance has a different address to the one on Companies House. He paid by Debit card and as this was an authorised payment, he probably will not get the money back. He has reported the company to the police who advised him to ring Trading Standards, who wouldn't tell him anything due to Data protection. He put their phone number in google and that has brought up other complaints of the same nature. Any advice?

    Two issues here:

First of all, what happened when your son returned the car to the selling dealer?

Secondly, how did he pay for the replacement engine?

Ask the bank to do a charge back on the debit card transaction. It is not a right in law but there is a recognised process in both the Mastercard and Visa schemes

£1 at Companies House website will buy you the name and address of the director(s) of the company - another point of contact/access.
  • I have had the same experience. I paid for an engine over the phone using a credit card on 4th January. No engine, no refund, and no one answers the phone any more.
  • It is important to note that the front-end of this scam is a web site called "enginesRus.co.uk". I filled in details of an engine I required and within 24 hours I received a text from ccs.premier (I think the 'ccs' stands for 'complete car scam'). They gave me a reference and freephone number 0808 1866466 to call. I am sure this number is on divert to another number. The engine was available at a reasonable price of £720 and came with a fantastic 12 month guarantee. I paid a deposit of £50 and then the balance of £670 the next day using our Visa debit card. The engine failed to turn up at the mechanics on the date given, but I was assured it had been dispatched via a well known courier and may well arrive the next day. As the engine did not arrive by the next day I phoned a 'lady' called 'Sharon'. She said she would contact the couriers and give me an update. She didn't so my wife called back and spoke to a man called 'Ian'. He told us the engine had been dispatched but had somehow fallen off the courier's van and was returned damaged to them. I requested a refund which they agreed to. When they checked with me the account number to refund the money into, alarm bells started ringing and I believed that they would not refund but actually take out more money, so my wife cancelled our cards immediately through the Cards Dispute team at Santander, who then sent us forms to complete regarding the dispute. We duly completed the forms and sent supporting evidence such as texts and emails plus the details revealed by the searches I had completed at Companies House. Within 7 days we received a refund in full from Santander - excellent service.

Well done Sunbeam, a text book case and solution, followed up by a text book result. :T

  • Thanks for your kind words and welcome.

Since I posted my inaugural comments I can further report that ccs premier ltd are alive and well.

They have just completed a full refund of £720 into our account. Honestly!

After recovering, I thanked them via email. I also informed Santander, who originally settled the dispute by refunding us the £720.

So, if anyone else requires a refund for non-delivery of an engine or gearbox, then just do what I did. Keep on asking politely via email.

Well done, it appears they may be a little more honourable than first assumed.
