just feel a bit sorry for them :o

as title.bought a small PC component for £2.39 with free P&P on 7th of Feb
its arrived to day vis Special Delivery@ a cost of £5.05
it has an estimate of 3-4 working days delivery,so isnt overdue
they have 4.7/5 for postage and dispatch from 10 ratings
been on ebay since 2008 and have 100% of 206

feeling a bit guilty but im loathed to pay the extra on such a cheap item
    mistake by the seller?

Sellers sometimes use SD to cover their back if they think there is a chance that the buyer is a scammer or troublemaker.

I've charged £8.50 SD postage on a laptop which then ultimately ended up 200g over so cost me £21 odd. I just swallowed the extra cost.

I sold my wedding dress on eBay a few weeks ago, and for some stupid reason, eBay only allow you to set the postage at £4 at the most.
It cost me £22 to send it, so I had swallow the extra cost myself.

Your seller might have got it mixed up with another parcel though, have you checked to see what else they sold around the same time?

Your delivery address may be in an area that the seller has posted to before where items have not arrived so the seller may have been taking extra precautions against it happening again.

On a £2.39 total payment? So basically they spent £5.05 to save a potential fraudulent claim for £2.39. I would have to question if that seller had really got the hang of ebay, with suspicion like that I just wouldn't bother selling at all

Couldn't you have listed it as a heavy or bulky item and charged the actual amount?

No, for it to go in the proper category, it would only allow £4.

  • I would think they had a few more expensive items to send as well and someone else posted it and sent all the items by SD. At least that would make some sense.
