Help Please - Blue Screen

I hope one of you kind folks can help me out please. I have suddenly been afflicted by the Blue Screen of Death syndrome.

Pc has been working fine all day until I sent to watch 4OD when I got the first blue screen. PC just hung and then it appeared. I rebooted after taking note of the error message it showed (not that I coukld possibly understand what it means as I am not exactly technically savvy :o )

I then tried with catchup TV and got the same result and then also with BBC iPlayer.

The message is below and I hope I copied the correct info.

STOP 0x0000006E
(0XE0000001, 0XBA3A0925, 0X994B820, 0x00000000 )
Watchdog.sys Address V3A0925 Base ay BA3A0000

Can anyone advise please. The only thing that has changed with the PC is the windows updates that installed last night.

thanks in advance

I cant help but just to let you know I have exactly the same problem, I just came here to ask for help with it.

My laptop was fine until I installed the latest update.
Now it keeps hanging for no reason and I had the Blue Screen too.
I have done a system restore hoping that would push back prior to the update but it hasn't helped.

    Can anyone help please?

    Which OS, model, video card?

Run a malwarebytes scan to rule out malware, (unlikely to be that).

uninstall the windows updates (starting with any video related updates (google the kb no's)), or use system restore to turn the clock back. If that doesn't work look for an updated video driver, if that doesn't work backup your data and restore to factory settings.

  • If your OS is Vista I'd guess at this update on Tue being the culprit:

    KB2117917
    604!

Mine is Vista. I had already tried system restore, back to Sunday evening. No improvement. So I've just uninstalled all the updates from yesterday and laptop now seems fine. ONly just seen your post Toxteth, will reinstate all the other other updates except KB2117917. What is it about that update that has caused the problem?

I have not had the blue screen problem on my laptop (and hope I don't as it doesn't sound good) but on logging off last night the power button had the 'installing updates' logo and the laptop switched off after updates were installed. But today I turned laptop on and it was going through some registry script at the top of a black screen (sorry if wrong description, but it was like the root menu) I turned laptop off and back on and tho slow to start up I got to the screen where it said to start windows normally and then things seem fine. But after reading this thread I discovered I also have the same update. Could this have caused the problem with my laptop? I have to say the laptop does sometimes crash on start up. but usually when the battery is low. Laptop is HP and 3 yrs old. The update mentioned does not say what it does and so am unsure wether to remove it or leave it. Also, should I always allow windows to auto update or should I choose the option to download the updates and install them myself? Thanks for your help.

Many thanks for the replies folks. I am running a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop with Windows XP. My video card is an ATI Radeon 2600 video card.

I managerd to update the video card driver probably more through good luck than anything else and so far I have not had any more crashes.

    uugh.

Back to this thread again. I am now blue screening even more often but this time the blue screen has the error that ati2dvag.dll is causing the error. Would I be right in assuming that I installed the drivers incorrectly. I didn't uninstall the old ones as I found out that I had to uninstall the catalyst control centre first before I could see the previous driver?
