I think one point about Avast ,Avg and MSE is the false positives that a virus checker can throw up should be put in the equation on how good a anti virus is .0

A fair point
In av comparitives tests (unsure out of how many as its down to individual files)
MSE got lowest with 3
Avast 9
Avira 10
AVG 19
and for comparison, the worst was Panda and Norman with 98 False Positives
On MSE though, it has by far the slowest scanner taking approx 2.5 times longer to scan than Avast and Avira:idea:0 -
Thats what makes me laugh - when people say their av has never detected anything nasty so their av has never let them down. How would they know if their av has failed them?
And yes, noscript will definitely be protecting you from browser based nasties which is the easiest way these days to catch nasties (other than dodgy downloading of course)
Actually I'm just old and paranoid. You're never really safe. A while ago my wife was asked by the bank if she'd ever thought about internet banking and she replied that her husband wouldn't consider it... does he not like computers they asked? - "No, he's been writing programs for 40 years and the last 15 years for the banking industry and that's why he won't consider it" she replied.
Well, if pushed, I'd consider booting from a Linux CD for on-line banking.0 -

hello, as an add on to this debate. I removed avg 8 and then downloaded avg 11. Within an hour I removed it. My computer slowed to a crawl. It was taking minutes for any icon on my screen to implement. The circle just went round and round. Once I removed it, everything fine. I've now downloaded avast free. Still testing....0

You used the AVG REMOVAL TOOL?:idea:0 -
yes I did.0

One thing I noticed though was that the removal tool would not work in internet explorer. I had to use firefox.0

Id recommend a hijack log as I suspect something is running that shouldnt be
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (admin):idea:0 -
+1 for Avast.Leanne Loves :A
