love this programme...but...it always make me want to cry, the family history behind the most simple recipe always gets to me..
the memory of my grans victoria sponge that she made every saturday is still strong..especially brings back the memory of when she went on a health kick and made everything out of wholemeal flour...yep...even the victoria sponge...interesting was the only word for it..0 -
Hubby & I were talking only yesterday about fish fingers, so when I go Morrisons next I'll ged some whoopsied cod as feel a fish finger sarnie moment comming on.
The Guys must have known I'm in comfort food mode at the moment.
Since spending several months in hospital since last June with a weekly menu that never changes ( It's tuna salad so must be monday night) home cooked food has never tasted so good.It matters not if you try and fail, and fail and try again; But it matters much if you try and fail, and fail to try again.

Last year they had PDF files of some of the extra recipes on the show
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00x84dj
They don't seem to have them up, maybe they will add them later.
Didn't enjoy it as much this time, found some of it very basic & uninspiring, that pie was a heart attack on a plate. The green stuff didn't appeal either.
The pudding & the gingerbread looked nice & their oxtail stew looked nice.
Don't think I've ever had beef curry (you don't get beef in curry houses) so I've only ever made lamb or chicken. Thought it looked quite nice, I would have only dared add the yogurt at the end for fear it would split, I always get it mixed up what you can cook & what you can't, so I don't dare cook any yogurt type stuff.0 -
I liked it, although not the green slop, I'm sure it must have tasted nice, but it didn't look nice at all.
OH thought the great big pies were quite berwildering

The recipes from the show are here. I fancy some of that ginger sponge.
Watching the show has made me wish (yet again) that my mum had written down her recipes. She used to just have scraps of paper that have all been lost over the years, and as she stopped cooking and baking years ago she can't remember any of them
She used to make something we called "dinner tart" which was essentially just a meat and potato plate pie but I've never managed to replicate it, and I would kill for her Christmas cake recipe. Funny really because she was mostly a terrible cook (I watched her cook cauliflower recently, she boiled it for about half an hour and when it was on the plate beside some potatoes you couldn't tell the difference), but she was fantastic at baking and had about four dishes she did really well
