Jeez....sometimes you are best not posting at all on here. I was simply looking to see if you can get a refund on your tax disc as i'd heard the law with regards to it had changed....not questioning my honesty...integrity etc...unbelievable some of you..judge and jury...no wonder people get put off posting.

The law being that dealerships had been cashing in illegally on peoples tax discs and not telling them they WERE entitled to it back. Seemingly they were slated for it. I was merely seeking advice as this is the 1st time i've done a trade in. No need for sarcasm etc..... we can't all be masters of every single situation. Thats why advice was sought...NOT judgement of my character.

Jeez indeed……Doesn’t matter what the law says, you posted everything you needed to in your original post and people responded on that basis.

Mine, and some others were they wouldn’t have asked if it had tax unless they cared so it’s part of the value of the car and will have been factored into the deal.

You then argued against that but your not going to change my opinion about the correctness of somebody (dealer or punter) removing something of value (tax, radio, spare wheel etc) from the car after the deal has been agreed.

By all means try it but think hard about pushing as do you really want to be looking for ongoing warranty support from a garage that thinks you’ve robbed them of £200?
  • I guess the OP is away trading his car in as he said the deal was taking place 'today'.

No doubt he'll be back on later to say he was right because the garage didn't notice/wasn't bothered, or he browbeat them into letting him take the tax.

Hope it went smoothly, because as vaio says above, it's best not to get off on the wrong foot in case borderline warranty work is required.

I would take the tax disk off and keep it in my wallet. If he asks give him the disk. You might want to wait a week to see if he phones. I would appologise and give him the disk. If he doesn't cash it in.

  • No doubt the OP will be on later complaining his car doesnt have a warranty because he asked if it had a warranty and the dealer said 3 years but didnt give him it......

Not complaining about anything....new car collected. Spoke to the dealer regarding the tax and he said he didn't include it in the price as when the car is off the road ie:forecourt....it isn;t required and would go to waste. Also that they usually give 6 months road tax with their cars they sell.

He'd only asked in case it needed to be collected..a free service they provide.

I didn't have any intention of whipping it off and not telling them but some of you semed to think that.

So I had two options..either take the disc and get a refund OR leave it with them and and extra £50 off the car and 1 yr tax instead of 6 months.

Warranties etc...all fine.......sadly to some of you wishing people and thinking the worst of people all the time...tut tut shame on you.

Thanks to the others who actually asnwered my query, not questioning motives spare tyres etc....get a grip guys. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
