Job application process

I am angry.

I'll tell you why!

I applied for a new job in the same line of work I do now but with a big pay rise..I wasnt looking but it seemed a good opportunity to move forward in my career.

I got an interview which went well , took some online tests and my resutls, I was told by the HR lady 'were amongst some of the best we have seen for sometime'

Went to the second interview and was told my skills were impressive and that I interviewed very well.

Was told I would hear by yesterday.

I did...Didnt get it because I would bring anything extra to the team....

excuse me??

Dont mind not getting a job if Im not good enough but dont !!!!!!!! me just say.....gggrrr

To make it worse its not like they saw anyone that much better than me...HR lady tells me the other 2 candidates got a no as well....and thet she cant understand why all the good feedback all the way through and still a no!!!!

RRRAAGGGGGHHHHH

Rant over...I feel a little better now.

Anyone else had something similar?

Not doing the opposite of that which they promise and charge you a fortune for the privileged. :(

Or maybe not:mad:

  • I have heard of this many times from collegues - interviewed, all goes well but no job as no places available.

All this started when they did away with expenses for interviewees - anyone remember those times?

Maybe you weren't a good team fit.

I am going to move on, water is still wet and sky is still blue (when you can see it from behind the clouds) but it doesnt stop the whole process being very very frustrating.

All Im asking for is be honest. Dont worry about my feelings, I'll get over it, if I'm not good enough dont build me up just to not give me the job at all

At least they gave you some kind of feedback - even if it is tripe. Many people never get a reason for not getting a job.

    Better luck next time!

You could try asking for some specific details as to why you weren't selected for the role. You could try 'In the interests of continuous improvement and positioning myself as best I can for future employment, I'd be interested to know why I wasn't selected. I felt the interview went well, and I'm curious as to what I can do better in the future, blah blah'.

But don't expect too much - they will be conscious of the risk of lawsuits so not go far beyond 'unlucky'!!

All of the comments from HR put you in the 'nice-to-have' category, rather than the 'must-have' category which is likely why you were unsuccessful on this occasion.

Sometimes they are looking for people who are outstanding at their level and clearly will drive success in the team they enter.

Simply being a 'good fit' into a team isn't enough for particular roles, which is what this sounds like.

I'd recommend asking "is there any doubt in your mind I am unable to excel in your organisation" at the end of any interview. It gives them the chance to highlight your weakness, and then you the opportunity to rebuff and give evidence as to why you are a better candidate than they think you are.

    edit

I agree with the above poster that HR are careful what they say as they could run into legal issues. Similarly my organisation does not give out references for former employees to avoid any legal ramifications (other than start date, end date and attendence records - ie facts).

I appreciate you are ranting in the ranting forum, but you may get better feedback from the jobseeking subforum

    I sympathise with the OP.

I once applied for a job that I applied for because I not only fulfilled the "essential" but also the "advantage" requirements. The job was a mirror of what I already did but in an area I was moving to.

I didnt even get an interview. :rotfl:

I did ring after the interview date for some feedback on my application. I was told that the director would call me back - he didnt. I called again and once again was told that the director was going to call later that day.

Needless to say, I didnt get a call and the person who did get it was an internal candidate who was lined up for it anyway.

Wouldnt it be lovely if an advert said "there is a really strong internal candidate for this job but we have to tick the boxes"!!
