I change mine earlier than whats require, left it too late once and ending up rebuilding half the engine, better safe than sorry.

Vauxhall are a 'cheaper' brand though, with more cars on the road to cater for. Good price though.

EuroCarParts - Full kit from Continental £50 notes to £134 depending when it was made [not allowed to post links so you'll need to Google it]

Just need someone to fit it. Should only be an hour on a car like that.

    5t.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Go to a decent indie for a quote. I'd use a genuine kit though, I can't remember who makes VW, but they're a decent enough brand.
Full belt kit, and the water pump if it driven off the belt.
Let the garage source the belt, it'll cost more, but there's no arguement if it breaks, unlike one you've supplied youself.
See if VW will pricematch, it's unlikely you're know a garagw within 5 miles of a dealer though.
Everyone normally uses a garage they know near them, so unless you're next door to the VW garage they're on a safe bet.
You could try the garages near them for a quote though, even if you have no intention of using them, and then try VW.

As stated above it is 4 years, not 6

The £319 price includes a cambelt kit, which includes the belt and any tensioners/rollers that are part of the set-up, as a tensioner/roller with a dodgy bearing could fail causing the issue you are trying to avoid by changing the belt! The average OE cambelt kit costs over £100 and with the (approx) 3hrs labour, you are paying about £60 p/hr plus parts, which would match most local garages.

EXactly the reson for the higher cost, too many stingies only do 1/2 a job then have the followers or water pump fail, and have it all to do again;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Google VWSpares... They'll often have Genuine OE stuff a lot cheaper than the Dealership... Aswell as Quality alternatives...

Not much point if the car is going to the garage, they don't like owner supplied bits, waranty issues and all that;)

The VW price didn't mention the water pump, hopefully it means it's not driven off the belt, it would be bad practice if they didn't do it at the same time for that price.

But if you know what it costs you can haggle and are less likely to have your trousers taken down.

It's not bad practice if they dont fail

The water pump would add approx £30 to the bill, but isn't changed as a rule, as since the Mk4 Golf they are very rarely seeing any issues.
