cambelt change?
Comments
-
When the manufacturer says it should be done.
Yes. It is 6 years or 60,000 miles (whichever comes first) because the rubber deteriorates. So that £150 bill you're putting off could possibly cost you a complete new engine if the belt fails. The £319 just quoted is quite expensive for an average cambelt change.
Just a thought.
The £319 price includes a cambelt kit, which includes the belt and any tensioners/rollers that are part of the set-up, as a tensioner/roller with a dodgy bearing could fail causing the issue you are trying to avoid by changing the belt! The average OE cambelt kit costs over £100 and with the (approx) 3hrs labour, you are paying about £60 p/hr plus parts, which would match most local garages.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. thanks everyone i'll look around for a good price i know what youre saying waiting around could cost me more in the long run i would however prefer to spend 150 than double that amountWhat goes around-comes around0

Ps: VW also offer price match, so if you can get a quote from A.N.Other garage (using the same genuine parts) for the job, the local VW dealer will match the quote. It won't be £150, but you can get the best of both worlds that way!:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. As stated, the kits come with the belt, tensioner, usually 2/3 rollers and the bolts/star washers to replace the whole setup of the cambelt. Much more comprehensive than just a belt change, which may be no use if the roller is faulty and lets the 'new' belt jump a few teeth wrecking the engine anyway!!
Yes I know what a cambelt kit is. I've never paid more than £70 for one. My last one was undr £50.0 -
Google VWSpares... They'll often have Genuine OE stuff a lot cheaper than the Dealership... Aswell as Quality alternatives...0
