  • We have also been on DMP with CCCS for just over two years now, all creditors but one Halifax have frozen interest. I would recommend CCCS hands down cant thank them enough for giving us our lives back.

Just a word about free v paid for DMCs
I have had creditors insisting that I use cccs or refusing to deal with a paid for DMP. However the OFT guidelines clearly state that you should be treated the same regardless of how you choose to deal with it, free, paid or DIY. I have even had HBOS refuse to talk to me about mortgage arrears until I had been in touch with CCCS.
I have no personal reason to doubt the integrity of CCCS just a little hear say. One poor woman from the consumer action boards was bullied by cccs.
Personally however I am a little cynical about CCCS. If their funding is by vol payments from the credit industry why would they bite the hand that feeds them?

    Why resurrect a year-old thread?

I have to say that some of you lot are just incredible!
Firstly I have better things to do than go back 12 months , find a thread I didn't know existed and restart it.
Second , all I did was state some FACTS and voice an opinion since when was that a crime?
Third I quoted from the OFT guidelines on debt collection as revised last year to give people information which is "that whatever route you choose to take, be it free, paid for or DIY" the credit industry should not refuse to deal with you. Also that the credit industry should not force anyone to follow a particular route.
I also said that i had no personal gripe against cccs
So maybe some of you will grow up, allow freedom of speech and welcome someone with a point of view that may differ from your own.
I use the same user name on the consumeraction forum so you can see my posts on there if you want.
I came to this forum for some advice on bankruptcy have received some so thanks to those people

I remember seeing one instant of this happening for someone with one of their creditors. But this was very rare as far as I know.

Being in a business where we’re offering large account facilities on a regular basis, many creditors are happy to see most of the money back, rather than making huge profit on it.

It’s not uncommon for us to be owed £5+ million as a result of what we do, yet in every scenario but 1 yet, we’ve had that money back.

My industry in itself isn’t too different to banking, except the fact that we don’t offer banking facilities! I’d have thought it’s very rare to see someone out of debt be put back into debt by a creditor, but it can happen. If we don’t earn the full money back, we generally wipe the slate clean.

  • I think the thing you have to remember is some DMCs charge for a service which PayPlan and CCCS offer free so they need to do all they can to persuade you it is better to pay them to do the job.

Only the creditor can agree to stop charges, interest etc and no matter how much you pay to a DMC who take a chunk of your money each month before passing on what's left to your creditors, they can't guarantee no interest will be charged. If they say they can, they're lying.

As for getting a bill for interest at the end - all correspondence I've had from my creditors says they will not charge me interest while I am on the DMP and there is no mention of loading it on at the end so I take that to mean they won't and I'm sure any judge would accept that meaning too.

I'd go with one of the free ones and get out of dept sooner. Two years in I've had brilliant support and service from CCCS but should that change I am free to go elsewhere.

    Good luck :)

Well you definitely posted on a thread last posted on a year ago - perhaps you are disputing that you didn't know about it?

In terms of your first post -

You are absolutely right, no creditor should insist you speak to any debt charity - I would suggest you tackle this by writing a letter of complaint to whichever creditor and quoting the OFT debt collection guidelines clauses 3.9c and 3.9d.
Have you done that? what did they reply?

You can see why creditors would prefer their debtors to use a free (to the debtor) provider though - as it means they will receive a bigger payment from their debtor each month.
