CCCS dont promise that the creditors will stop charges/interest if you use their services, in fact they tell you that in the first instance that they may not accept the offer of reduced payments... and people have had very mixed experiences eg MBNA accepted my DMP no problem, but i know of others who have had their DMP offer rejected by MBNA... all very hit and miss!

MBNA were my biggest creditor, owed them nearly 10k and they were the first creditor to accept my dmp and the only creditor to have kept interest frozen 3 years on. they were great to deal with.

Same her, MBNA are in my DMP , £3.5k, and they accepted without any problem. M & S, Santander ( after a few issues), Tesco have all been great.

    Barclaycard won't play ball.

  • Can anyone who has completed a cccs tell me was you hit with a interset bill at the end ,as all cmp company's are telling me that you still pay he interst at the end of your plan , please can any shed any light on this ?
  • I have had a call from a DMC and they told me that CCCS was goign to be closed by the government as they can no longer fund them and that all pople with them will be in trouble. Its justa ploy to pray on you.
  • hi
I have a DMP with CCCS, my creditors froze interest MBNA almost straight away Natwest CC and Natwest loan within 6 months and my Natwest OD I had to keep asking but finally after just less than 12 months. I do not believe that they add the interest at the end I think that the debt company you spoke to are trying to put the frighteners up you. As others have said there are free DMP companies such as payplan and CCCS and also national debtline have templates if yoou decided to go it alone.Every penny goes to the creditors and not to a company out to make a profit.

Good luck with whatever you decide, there is lots of good free advise on these pages...it helped me no end as I was completley unsure which way to turn

I remember seeing one instant of this happening for someone with one of their creditors. But this was very rare as far as I know.

Just a word about free v paid for DMCs
I have had creditors insisting that I use cccs or refusing to deal with a paid for DMP. However the OFT guidelines clearly state that you should be treated the same regardless of how you choose to deal with it, free, paid or DIY. I have even had HBOS refuse to talk to me about mortgage arrears until I had been in touch with CCCS.
I have no personal reason to doubt the integrity of CCCS just a little hear say. One poor woman from the consumer action boards was bullied by cccs.
Personally however I am a little cynical about CCCS. If their funding is by vol payments from the credit industry why would they bite the hand that feeds them?

A couple of years ago I was told to speak to CCCS by Egg otherwise they couldn't help me. I think its more to ensure that you get impartial help than anything else.

I think the interest question depends on the type of debt. CCs and ODs might freeze interest, while loans will have added it on already at the start.

I am not so charitable, they have no right to insist you talk to anyone
  • We have received info from CCCS, we have since been contaced by several Debt Plan Agencies.

One DPA warned us from CCCS saying they "work for the craditors" and not for us and the creditors do not always freeze the interest and therefore after the 6yrs 1 month (they state it will take this long, based on their workings- they also say ASSUMING the creditors freeze the interest) we will be debt free. - They say the "ASSUMING" part is their get out clause and that it is likely they wont freeze the interest and we will be billed for it at the end of the period.

She said they are not government funded, they are funded by the creditors!

Eek!! Confused now!! Anyone completed tgeir payment period and charged interest?

    Thanks xx

I've been with CCCS for just over a year and feel confident in the help they've given me. As others have said, creditiors can't be forced to reduce interest. Mine have frozen interest apart from Lloyds, but this seems to be a common theme with Lloyds regardless of the DMP company.

I haven't been approached by any other DM agenices so this may be coincidence as they wouldn't pass your details on, and it's worth bearing in mind they are going to want to discredit CCCS because they want to run your DMP and charge you for it. There are no charges with CCCS.

Speak to the CAB and see what they say if that will help put your mind at rest. You can of course change to another organisation like Payplan, only there is no guarantee they can get creditors to freeze interest any more than CCCS can.

    Good luck :)
