Changing to new contract same provider can i keep the number

Hi,

I am ending my current contract with vodafone as they are not able to offer me a suitable new contract. Dial a phone are offering one I want to take out but it is with Vodafone.

My husband was going to take out the contracts in his name this time rather than mine, we take it in turns every time we open/close accounts so we take turns paying the bill.

Will we be able to take our numbers with us with the PAC code if it is the same provider?

Thanks
kara

  • You will have to pac code out the number to a different network then pac code it back into vodafone this way you can keep your number

  • Was just about to order phone and going to port number to PAYG then back again as advised but on checkout page I noticed this one line

<LI id=ctl00_cphPageContent_ucAboutYou_liVodafonePortNumberMsg>When purchasing this package from Dial-a-Phone you will be unable to port your current number to Vodafone. For more details please contact 0800 183 7902.This phone line is now closed so I can't contact them till tomorrow but their FAQ state the following below

Please note that Porting means that you are transferring your mobile number from one Network to another and therefore it is not possible to port your number on the same Network.
To keep your existing number on the Networks listed above is very straightforward - just complete the following steps:
    1) Place your order with Dial-a-Phone.
    2) Contact your existing network or service provider to request your PAC (Porting Authorisation Code).
When you receive your new Dial-a-Phone package and it has been connected it will operate with a new number so that you can use your phone without having to wait for the port to be completed.
    3) Contact your new network or service provider on the number below and quote the new number we have issued you, your existing number that you want to keep and the PAC.
    4) Once porting has been complete, please update your account by clicking on My Numbers.
    Network Contact Numbers:

      [*]O2 - 0870 5860860

      [*]Vodafone - 08700 700191 / https://www.vodafone.co.uk/keepmynumber

      [*]T-Mobile - 0870 606 0139

      [*]Orange - 0800 079 2222

      [*]Three - 0843 373 333

      [*]BT Mobile - 0800 032 2111
Do you think this means I can't port the number even if I wanted to or once I'd got the contract I could?

AFAIK, only O2 and Voda allow transferring number within the same network. For all other networks you have to port it in two steps using PACs via another network PAYG sim card.
