Thank you all so much for your support.
yes, I was there and have been told- the proposal is that my post closes. Simple. I coudl see my boss was devastated ('I hired you, I know how hard you work and I am so sorry to have to do this'. I knew as I made my way there that is wasn't good news: my manager was on her mobile facing the window, and she had been there before me. She was almost in tears. So they are in consultation with the Union until April 26, then they can announce what agreement they came to with the unions (or not) and then, ... well, either redundancy (Which I don't want to consider) or if I am lucky enough re-deployment. So it back to the drawing board and networking like mad because I love this organisation and I want to stay. I have a hell of a lot to offer...
In response to Bryanb- this is my fourth position here- I started on two contracts contracts (6 moths and a year, but moved on after 9 motnths) before being made permament in my previous role and then landed this last May. Short and sweet, it was...0 -
Reason I was asking is that I believe redundancy payments don't kick in till you've been employed for 2 years, but it looks as though you will get something. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

I'm so sorry, what a bummer. Keep on with the networking though if redeployment is a possibility. If you love the organisation, it's worth a shot.
Big hugs to you - what a downer the meeting must have been.
I don't normally use the rather dodgy group hug smilie, but have a few of these....

Thank you Blonde- I am gutted- I have already gone through quite a few emotions- I had a very ice chat wih my manager over coffee. It turns out she is ok 'for now' but expected to take my work as well as our boss' (the one delivering the message) with no pay rise or change in job title at all. She is very upset about this and can't see how all this is going to work, especially since we are supposed to be taking on a lot of work from other department and I have been a great help in makins sure we delivered on time, even taking on producers' work to help someone wih flexitime. I have been 'understanding', then 'ok with it', then just now furious as to why I have to go when there are four people doing the same job, two of which have been consistently missing deadlines and bunking off early. I am tempted to say this to my boss. My manager wants to talk to him and make it clear that this is not right (since he 'welcomed comments as to how to make this work'), but I am not sure whether it is worth it- I am sure it is not personal, but if they can't see this is just not the way to save money, is it worth it?
I am obviously off looking to the jobs site- have emailed an ex-mentor whom I have worked with and approached someone that is recruiting for a job (not sure I want to have to work weekends. but hey, better than being unemployed).
Thanks all for your support- it is going to be a tough next few weeks... and I have to get on with my long distance master's work...:(0 -
Some people will be lost through natural wasteage, some will jump ship to something else, others will be encouraged to take a package as they just aren't that good....
you, however have proved yourself reliable, adaptable, capable of seeing where savings can be made and implementing them. Fingers crossed they are able to put those skills to good use.
They don't want to keep the people who don't earn their wages, so there IS hope for you yet.
If the worst happens you will get glowing references and have 8 months of experience under your belt.
All easy for me to say but much harder for you to be in this position...;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Hi Londoner, sorry you have this news. Been made redundant myself this week so sympathise. If you do feel there is good evidence that you are doing a similar job as others and they are not at risk then you can challenge this during your consultation and ask for the 'pooling' to be assessed. Organisations can also 'bump' redundancies whereby its not necessarily the person in the role that needs to go who is the person made redundant - providing there are justifiable reasons. You mentioned the union are involved so maybe you should have a chat with your union official so you can clarify the situation.0

Sorry to hear that Londoner, what an upsetting time. (((Virtual hug))) :A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -
Thank you all so much for your support.
I feel better today- when my OH came home (with flowers, cheese and biscuits 'becases you deserve it and i want to cheer you up') and I showed him the paperwork, he encouraged me to go ahead and propose a business case as to why my post should be spared and the team re-organised - 'I would see this as a challege, it is right up your street'. I am getting in touch with my Union official (I am one myself!) to formulate this and it nice to know my manager supports me as well.
But, I have already earmarked a job I am applying for- I need a bit of homework, but I can do it and could get it is I prepare myself well- the only sting on the tail is that a collegue of mine is probably applying for it too (ouch!) as he is on a contract due to expire at the end of March- there are, however , two vancancies going...
I wan to see it as a bleep on the journey and an opportunity to up my game and move on...
Thank you all, you are a fantastic bunch- now to wait until this afternoon, when we are told in public and officially...0 -
Me again... the weekend has been up and down, together with a lot of work for my MA that I am doing, and an application finished and submitted. But it is getting to me, however positive I try to be, I get very angry on and off. Today we had a big staff briefing- I decided to just dial in, as I have heard it before- people are angry and there are serious questions as to the wisdom of some of these cuts ( we DO need cuts, but it gets a bit scary when senior managers have no answers as to how things are going to work), I thought I would saty away to protect myself, in case I get too fired up (like a very senior collegue has ...) NO idea of a plan.
And just now I had to tall the office gossip to shut it: she kept going on and on and on about a colleague who is also 'at risk' and that mon Friday dared to ask out loud who were the Unions and what the next step for him is- now, admittedly he is not the sharpest toold in the box, but at least he admitted he didn;t know and asked openly, right? Thuis woman kept going on about how 'selfish' he is and how insensititve for saying 'I' instead of 'we'... I had to get up, go out to her and tell her to stop it- he is worried about his job, he doesn;t know, he asked- I suggested she took her gossip behind this guys back elsewhere, the to pub perhaps, outside of the office, because it is a trickly time for some of us and it is not helping... [note: she is NOT at risk, yet she is dishing advice freely without being asked...)
I felt much better once I stopped the poison spreading.
I have a meeting with my Union Rep on Friday...
As much as I am confident I will be all right, I am having trouble sleeping and I often am on the brink of tears...
