Can you bank a cheque in RBS if you are a Halifax customer?

This may be a silly question but if you are a Halifax customer and need to put a cheque into your account, can you do so in an RBS branch or is it not possible?

Thanks

No, not RBS, but you can pay it in via a Bank of Scotland branch

They may accept it if you have a pay-in slip (BGC) from Halifax and pay a charge.

You do know that Bank of Scotland and The Royal Bank of Scotland are not the same bank?!

Halifax is only another name for Bank of Scotland.

I honestly haven't got a clue if RBS is anything to do with Halifax, just on my way home from work up town today I noticed a poster in the window which looked very similar to the type in Halifax!

Thought I'd ask on here rather than look an idiot in the bank tomorrow...

RBS is nothing to do with Halifax. RBS and Natwest are the same group, and Halifax and Bank of Scotland are one (HBOS)

In theory you can pay a cheque into a halifax account at an RBS branch providing you have a pre printed BGC.

However im not sure if there is a charge for such a service.
Im an ex employee RBS Group

Thanks for the replies, It isn't a big deal anyway, it's just that this bank was on my way home whereas I will have to leave work at lunch or after, either way, rushing to find a Halifax!

    Cheers for the help all.

Off topic but does anyone know how long a cheque takes to clear in Halifax when it is from someone who banks with someone else (I can't remember if it is HSBC or Barclays)?

If I put it in tomorrow will it clear by next Tuesday as it usually did when I banked with Abbey?

Cheque clearance on bank accounts follows 2-4-6. The time it takes for any UK cheque to clear is 6 working days. Availability is generally after 4 working days.

This process may be quicker if: a) the cheque is being drawn on an account from the same bank/ branch or b) your bank allows availability earlier due to the account you have e.g. some current accounts work 2-3-6.

The day you pay in the cheque (provided it is a working day), is day 0, so 6 working days later i.e. the following Friday, is when the cheque would be cleared. The cheque however should be available to withdraw 4 working days later, on Wednesday - unless it's a savings account. Like I said above (which would explain the day less with Abbey), some banks will make cheques available earlier based on account type or even charge a fee to do so.
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.
