Wrong sex passenger details on flight booking

Just booked a flight with flybe via the web and on receiving my confirmation email I discovered I've appended Mrs on to my passenger name instead of Mr. A friend says they will take a hefty charge to change this. Does anyone know what my rights are? Do I have to get this changed to Mr given my first name is obviously a male one i.e James.
The flight is domestic Edinburgh to Jersey in the Channel Islands and not till July.
Any advice greatfully received. Thanks in advance.

They may not even notice at check in. However it is worth giving them a call as *some" airlines will correct an obvious mistake free of charge.0

Call them as soon as possible. "I've just made this booking and realised there was an error". Contrary to common belief a lot fo airlines will change obvious errors free of charge. And the quicker you do it the more chance you have of a satisfactory outcome.0

from the Flybe website:Booking review period
Flybe offer a 24 hour booking review period within which, and if Flybe deem that an error has been made by the booker when making the booking, at Flybe's discretion a change may be made to the booking without incuring the standard change fees.
get them called ASAP.

In conclusion having phoned Flybe at lunchtime today they changed my details without any extra charge. A big thanks to all posters for their suggestions especially for pointing out the 24 hour grace period as I was tempted to leave it till the weekend to fix it.
This contrasts sharply with a couple of years back when a friend made exactly the same mistake twice when a party of three of us were flying to the States. The flight was with Virgin who apparently wanted £10 to fix the mistake however it had been booked through WH Smith Travel who wanted £25 per name robbing us of a total of £50 for a 30 second job.
As a result none of us will ever use WH Smith travel ever again.0 -
buying a dress would have been cheaperReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0

Does it really matter? There is no Mr Mrs or any other title in my passport. Surely if I wish to style myself Mrs then that is my business and would not conflict with my passport. David0

David,
whilst it would not conflict with your passport, it would conflict with the airline manifest, which needs to be accurate. this is also used by the authorities in the worst case scenario of a crash, to determine exactly who was on board. Also, any insurance cover you had could be invalid as the name on the insurance policy would not match the name on the travel document.

Hi Dave, an interesting point you have raised. It is quite worrying in some respects because I usually style myself "Dr". However airlines usually don't allow it so I put down "Mr". Several times therefore, my insurance and travel document will have been different.
I guess the questions to ask are
(a) has anyone out there ever had a problem when the titles don't match on flight bookings / passports / insurance - a real problem that is, not just a grumble from check in staff.
(b) have any airport staff ever refused boarding to someone whose titles don't match - again turned them away, not just had a grumble at them?
My reason for getting on my high horse about this is that I do not think that it is necessary to use someone's sex to define who they are. IMO, name and dob should be enough. If you need more you could add place of birth.
Best wishes to all
