how easy is it to change a single elec socket, to make it a double?

is there anything i need to be aware of ?

    thanks!

If your wall is plasterboard, then it's a lot easier then brick, If the socket is surface then even easier!!!. It doesn't matter if its a spur or a ring, changing your socket from a single to a twin is fine. Obvsiously, you need to turn the power off while doing the work or else

More confused ???. End of circuit v end of ring. If it is a 13 amp socket there is a pretty good chance it will be a ring. In which case there is no end.

Note all domestic sockets should be rated at 13Amps, requardless if they are on a ring or radial ( end of circuit)

If you get one of the new type like was posted earlier it doesn't matter what the wal is, they put a double on a single box without any wall work.

Is it surface mount or flush with wall?
If it's plasterboard then very easy.
If it's solid wall and flush then bit more work.

  • as said eariler go to a wholesalers and buy a single to twin convertor is your best bet for a diy jobby, will take about 10-15 mins, but make sure the electric is off, then make sure again.

If it's plasterboard then it will still only take 10-15 minutes. Took me 1 minute with a stanley knife to cut the hole for my telephone socket (it was surface mount and I hate surface mount).
