  • Just wanted to thank Underwriter for his/her excellent post (#80). Should be compulsory reading for anyone who wants to express an opinion on this matter.

Kokott is an idiot. It may take a few years before everyone realises that, but ultimately they will. At the moment insurance pricing is perceived to be unfair by some. If this ruling goes the way it looks like it's going to go, it will be unfair.

I work in the team which sets the underwriting philosophy

    What's "underwriting philosophy"?

philosophy - the use of reason in understanding such things as the nature of reality and existence, the use and limits of knowledge and the principles that govern and influence moral judgment

But this definition seems better, given the circumstances

calm resignation: restraint, resignation, or calmness and rationality in somebody's behavior or response to events

An underwriter is a bookmaker with some letters after their name

I'd agree, but once you place your money with a bookmaker, they don't change the bet without telling you, and if you win, they don't cancel the bet and try to give the stake money back (if you're lucky).

    Bookies definately do the above
  • Do carry on, it's very entertaining to hear you spouting off about a job role you clearly know nothing about.

Oh good, are you a philosopher too?

Yes I'm a big bad wolf, apparently.

Little Red Riding Hood references are far too philosophical for me.
I'd have put you in the "Hatchet" Harry Lonsdale class myself.
