the oil traders watch the worlds producers and miniscle changes -she knows that the north sea yields are going down and the uk is now importing more in net revenue than it raises in exports---we dont use north sea oil because it is very refine and goes to foreign buyers via rotterdam so its not an internal figure --how can the past few years production figures be ignored and a 25 year span be forcast! --i acknowledge it bloomberg confirms it and the oil traders know it--the old adage of uneconomical to exploit comes to mind---too deep and not economic to get

You can make oil from almost anything – coal, natural gas, biomass. Even from just sunlight and CO2 if this company is to be believed.

However, producing synthetic oil at anything like the quantities that we use petroleum (i.e. natural oil from the ground) is a different story. The world uses about a cubic mile of oil every year, that's a lot...

This post is absolutely correct. As I've argued many times, its the scale and the time that is the big problem.

Way too much of the former and too little off the latter.

To keep the world's economies 'ticking over' we need an alternative that can be scaled globally within 10-15 years, it is my opinion that this cannot be done given the evidence that is before us at this time.
Have owned outright since Sept 2009, however I'm of the firm belief that high prices are a cancer on society, they have sucked money out of the economy, handing it to banks who've squandered it.

Proudly voted remain. A global union of countries is the only way to commit global capital to the rule of law.
  • Peak oil is not a theory - its a hard fact. The only part which is open to debate is when we will reach peak oil.

You should understand that we will never run out of oil. But its not just oil we need, its cheap oil and a very large flow of it.

Oil at $50 a barrel is useful. We can use it to make plastics, fuel for cars, ships and planes. Agriculture and pharma also rely on cheap oil.

Oil that costs $600 a barrel suddenly changes things somewhat....

Its also important to understand about the flow of oil.

Lets imagine that 100 people get their water from a barrel. While the barrel is small, the top is open and there is a ladel, so the water can be dispensed quick quickly and the queue of people at the water barrel is always short.

But then the barrel starts to dry up and now there are 1,000 people wanting water. Someone says "hey, no need to worry, I've just found a mega barrel of water ten times as big!". So indeed the barrel is massive and full of great water. But the lid is fixed and there is no ladel, only a small straw to extract the water. So those at the front of the queue slowly get their water, but the queue moves so slowly that those at the end die of thirst.
  • Wasnt there someting about artificial petrol being made, im guessing whichever scientists made it will soon be developing artificial oil to stop us running out.

Where do we get the energy from to make the artificial oil?

Several companies have made real petrol out of algae. This is often put down as a feasible option as it is claimed to be difficult to grow. I find that hard to believe myself but thats what they say.

Some of its advantages are that you can use waste Co2 to feed its growth and grow it in sea water so not have to take up land space.

    Shale oil and gas.

Put the foil hats away, chaps.

Shale oil and gas will slow the decline, but its expensive to get out and the fields output declines very quickly.

Nothing more than a sticking plaster over the problem.

The UK needs to invest in nuclear and renewables asap and move away from oil as much as possible.

And we need to ensure that only British companies build the nukes and renewables.

The British government could drop the cost of petrol two-thirds by scrapping petrol taxes.

Yes, it could. Which tax would you like see increase to replace the lost revenue? Income tax up by say 10%, or maybe a big hike in NI?

At least with tax on petrol you have some choice. Income tax and NI you have no choice over. If I want to cut how much tax I pay, I can buy a more economical car or drive less. If I'm rich and can afford the tax then I'll enjoy driving a 4x4 gas guzzler.

Wiki Leaks is psyop by the CIA and MI5 it's a very clever propaganda campaign, don't believe any of it. In every government they have a specialist department.
But yes Oil is going to $150 - $200 but not because of that Peak Oil Lie....

Buy a book called 'Energy non Crisis'

Oh Hi, you didnt respond to my PM asking you when exactly your five months was from

Is it from October when the old guy first said it would hit $150 or is it from the end of November when you posted it on the board.

Long way to go in 4 weeks, isn't it.

Looks like the guy who has never been wrong is going to be wrong.

So I suppose fewer five a day advisors, street football facilitators, subsidised squash club membership for lesbians and £100,000 a year quangocrats is right out of the question?

There is nothing inevitable about high taxation.
