I fancy getting an old petrol Picasso as I like the higher up seating position while driving.

2000-2002 petrol models seem to be going cheap. I've noticed the tax is £200 a year on these compared to £125 for the diesel version.

why not go for the diesel,we have one and its very good

I don't do a lot of miles, only around 5-6K a year currently. Plus I've only ever had petrol cars. :D

Also I was thinking they were cheap because people don't want to pay the high tax on them.
  • We have a Toyota Verso diesel and it's great.
    60MPG on a decent run.

I find the visibility in the Picasso to be a bit poor, sight lines can be compromised.

The turning circle is unbelievably bad.
  • I had a diesel picasso HDI 07 plate and it was nice to drive with good economy but I crashed it and wrote it off! I hit the wheel arch of a transit van and left a small dent and a few stratches on the van but I couldn't drive mine! I caused £4500 of damage to the front, bumper, bonnet, both headlights, radiators and who knows what else under the bumper as it was resting on the front wheels but I stepped out of the car alive and with not a mark on me! I did suffer whiplash but was impressed at the force the car had taken without anything coming into the cabin of the car.

I would say however it was quite noisy to drive on dual carridgeways, rocks like crazy in a breeze and turning it round was a learnt skill! I have now got a Ford Focus C-max which isn't as tall, much quieter to drive and I think the interior is better quality. You can fit 3 booster seats in the back but not 3 full size group 1-2 seats. I've also got the ghia model with the cruise control and heated front screen which is nice!!

We had a picasso, great car, in the same way as our fridge is a great fridge!, loads of space, comfortable and cheap, but no driver enjoyment at all.

We now have a Hyundai Santa fe, which has 7 seats, loads of space, great fun, and very well made.

If you want a petrol MPV, then the petrol Zafira is stupidly cheap in petrol form.

Strange as the petrol one doesn't have the biggest handicap that the diesel one has, which is a DPF equipped Fiat engine.

Make sure you drive one and ensure that you have no issues with the blind spot caused by the drivers side A pillar.

Interior relatively hard wearing, and you could easily find a petrol one around the 3 or 4 yr old mark for 6 grand.
