Dear oh dear. You sound like one of those moaning minnie's that just whinges for the sake of of it! Does it matter who supplies TfL with their fuel? It certainly won't affect your prices! If you want to travel cheaply, use PAYG Oyster!therevelator wrote: »You're kidding, right!!! I'll tell you why: because I want to ******* well know where my money's going!!! For someone who's made 1500 posts, that's a very strange statement... After all, don't we have a right to know how we're being ripped off and by whom...0 -
Why would they need to tell you who provides the fuel?
Every bus company is under a tendering contract to London buses. Operating companies may also use a different fuel supplier. Also buses like HGV's use diesel and not petrol
For the tube i have no idea, but i'd say it's run straight off the national grid seeing how much power it would need to substain the system.
I really don't understand your gripe tbh. You stated you used a couple of tubes and 3 buses. £10 seems relatively cheap if you ask me. If you had driven you may of had your own fuel cost, congestion charge and parking to consider.
The cost of fuel is an irrelevance to TFL. Buses as stated above are on tender to TFL or operate on London Service Permits to run in the London area. Simply TfL ask the companies for a price to run at the specification- they do that, TFL keeps farebox income to pay for that.
Companies like First, Arriva and Stagecoach are able to 'hedge' fuel prices with suppliers as they buy so much and are not exposed as much to rises. Other smaller companies might just fill up at a petrol station!
I also do not believe London buses fuel pays fuel duty- it is reclaimed in bus operators service grant, but not sure if that still applies.
Power for the Tube was supplied from Lots Road power station AFAIK, but now the national grid does it.
In any case 2 tubes z4-1 and 3 buses at peak time for £10 in a capital city and you think that is bad? I'd love to pay £1.30 for a bus. In Glasgow my cash fare for a 2 mile journey on old London buses is now £1.70. I walk more!0 -
Thanks to those who've offered some useful information.
To the others, it's odd that you don't see it fit to query the organisation and management of TFL. The fact that bad and corrupt management is the reason I'm paying higher prices does actually bother me...in the same way the financial economic crisis bothered me because corrupt organisations such as the IMF, World Bank, national treasuries around the world didn't oversee their responsibilities properly.
"Why does it bother you? Why does it matter? It's none of your business."
"OK, you're right, it doesn't matter, I'll just meekly pay more in taxes and time to sort the problem out...yea, no worries...**it happens, right??? Water off a duck's back..."
Very, very, odd.Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -
So you have already established that corrupt management is the cause of your problem?therevelator wrote: »The fact that bad and corrupt management is the reason I'm paying higher prices does actually bother me...
Just one more thing...
Why have you totally ignored all those posters that suggested £10.00 was not an excessive amount to pay for all those trips?0 -

Putting it bluntly i work for London Buses
You as a passenger have no clue whats involved in running the London transport network
The amount of behind the scene stuff that goes on is mind boggling
People like you don't deserve to use the service. London has the biggest and most frequent transport network in the world.
Maybe you should try using a service out in the countryside where buses stop running at 8pm and have a frquency of an hourIf Adam and Eve were created first
.Does that mean we are all inbred0 -

Why is TFL corrupt? Got anything to back up your outlandish and quite frankly pathetic claims?
And why are you not responding to anyones questions to you? Are you that ignorant that you dont want to admit you have been shown up for the pathetic specimen that you really are"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

No companies do. Buses run on diesel.
Are you sure when you used the Underground you tapped in and out?I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0
