Bought car then in broke same day

I recently bought a car from a man. I paid 1000 and on the way home the engine blew up. It did state no mechanical faults and 100 % reliable on ad. Also the v5 wasn't in his name and he just gave me the whole form. Any help please?

  • Private sale? If so, unless you can prove he lied in his description of the car, you have no come-back.

  • No. But I went his house. Might just have go see him

Sounds like it could be one of these guys who does up cars to sell on...... Was there a huge mass of cars parked near his house?

Is his name on the V5?

You probably have no come back, but if he's selling cars privately then he is breaking the law, as a private individual your only allowed to sell one car per year or the tax man will jump down your neck.
If he's claiming benefits/allowances/etc without declaring an income he can also be prosecuted for benefits fraud.

The DVLA (w*ankers!!! *cough*) would also be interested in the fact he's not followed the correct procedure with reference to informing them he owned the car and also his handling of the V5 document.

Use that information how you will.

So his mate got it sold privately to avoid come backs, isn't this illegal?

It isnt a Puma with a melted piston is it???????

Dead simples a piston ring could melt! However for it to do so it would have to reach a temperature where your pistons would simple be a pile of molten aluminium in your sump.

You keep asking if a melted piston ring can be fixed. Simple answer "NO" if your engine has been that hot to melt a piston ring it is "FOOKED"

    New engine time!

I found this with some searching, but there's definitely something about this on the TAX side which states only 1 car can be sold privately.

Additionally if his home is rented or leasehold, the lease will contain a clause which gives right of eviction for using the property as a place of business.
