Umm, 'I've a horse outside'...have you actually read what has been written here? I really resent what you said...I am not work shy. You have no idea. I try anything but anxiety has held me back. I applied because I so wanted to get out there, but I didn't think it through enough. So don't discriminate please; perhaps you ought to get on your horse outside and have a bit of a gallop...

The coordinator roles require the use of a car but the collector and enumerator roles do not.

Crikey, no way could you walk the distances for the enumerator role! It would be way too much and you would never get it all done. And if you had to rely on public transport...

I don't quite believe that about data just being collected for counting purposes, to be honest, but then I am a cynic :D

Woodbine, people don't like giving their information away. And I don't think you quite comprehend really. If it was that simple...but it's not.

sorry but thats not really a discussion for this forum, however the only people who dont like giving out their details are those with something to hide or someone to hide from?

Well yes, they possibly wish to hide and in this present climate there are plenty of them. There is a lot of hostility out there and people are busy and don't like the disturbance. It's not an enviable job and I think the Census aren't having an easy task getting people to do it.

    Hazardous in what way!

I should imagine if a 6' 13" guy comes to the door, tells you to eff off and starts ranting at you not to come back, that would be pretty hazardous, or knocking at the door of a "crack house" with everyone as high as kites, would qualify as well;)

As to taking a temp job, I would never do it, it causes too much hassle re benefits! If it was a smooth transition from benefits to work and back, yes, but unfortunately it doesn't work like that!! I know, my son did temp work and it caused no end of trouble, and cost me a fortune as he had NO money for 3 weeks!!! But not everyone has someone to fall back on. The situation is ridiculous, as how the hell do they expect people to live, whilst they process the claims?? I Know people say a temp job is better than nothing, something to put on CV etc, etc, but unless you have a super efficient benefits office, it's really IMO, not worth the hassle!!
  • Exactly Marisco :rotfl:
  • Just wanted to say that my hubby is on ESA at the moment, and has been put on the reserve list for an enumerator post and is still waiting to hear about the collector post. We are both hoping he gets one as six weeks work is better than none. He also completed a temp 6 week job up to christmas with the royal mail and had no problem reclaiming his benefit. He will also qualify for the £40 per week return to work credit.

A temporary job may not be as desirable as a full-time job, but it's massively better than no job at all as it can be used on your CV and to be blunt, an employer is far more likely to go for someone who appears to have been doing something constructive to overcome unemployment than someone who has been sitting around waiting for the 'perfect job' to come along.

I'd also add that temporary jobs can often lead to full-time jobs in the same company. Obviously not going to be the case with the census, but it's worth bearing in mind for other temp jobs that crop up.

I worked for RM over Christmas and like your husband, had no problems reclaiming benefits.
