Do you have to work for the Census?

I actually receive income support for anxiety and agoraphobia but wanted to try something to increase my confidence. I don't somehow think this is it. I would have needed someone with me the whole time and as shikoku has rightly pointed out, many people are hostile about the census forms; they want to avoid it through debts, not everyone wants to be found. I'm not frightened of hard work or any work but this is temporary work, there is no opportunity for permanent work and by the time I would have got tax credit sorted (maybe...) I would be back on income support and trying to get that sorted! The job is for 25 hours a week. A headache to say the least. This isn't the case of any job is better than no job, you only say that when you are working and its lowly paid or inconvenient. This job only lasts for 6 weeks; a proper job to me is something that lasts. I wouldn't recommend anyone being daft enough to apply for it, like me :rotfl:

    It's changed a lot recently.

That's interesting; in what way? (Genuine question.)

'People will be able to complete and submit their questionnaire online, or fill it in on paper and post it back in a pre-addressed envelope. Guidance is being provided online and through the census helpline.

Completed questionnaires will be electronically tracked and field staff will follow up with households that do not return a questionnaire.'

TBH it sounds potentially hazardous to me.

I tend to agree that this is not an ideal job for someone who suffers from the illnesses that you suffer from. Knocking on people's doors that you don't know would be very nerve wracking for many people but I would have thought almost impossible to do on a daily basis for you.

I'm a bit puzzled why you applied for the job in these circumstances but given that you did, I would have said that you are justified in asking for adaptations, which they would be unable to provide and then you are sorted. e.g. you would be unable to accept the job because of your disability.

Strange they offered you the job if your confidence is an issue. I did this last time round in a notoriously rough area with my son in a pushchair. You do need a lot of confidence to knock on a strangers door, check how many forms they may need and hand them over. We were not allowed to just post them through the door until at least 2 failed attempts to hand them to the occupier.

this is the census NOT the electoral register, people avoid it only because they are too bone idle to fill it in !
as for the OP now youve applied and been offered the job the only real course is to do it.

Is that really true? If the OP is on IS there is no obligation to be looking for employment.

Woodbine, people don't like giving their information away. And I don't think you quite comprehend really. If it was that simple...but it's not.
