  • Have bought and sold cars on the Bay of E ........
Never have put them on a B.I.N, always set a reserve of the minimum i would take, plus also i state that the winning bidder has to make contact within 24hrs.

Depends on the car really, mine have all been at the cheaper end of the market, youngest was 12yrs old at the time.

  • Classified is relatively cheap considering how many pics you can put on, then simply negotiate with reasonable offers and reject any that are silly, buyer comes and looks and either buys or walks away.

A brain donor messed me around something rotten, i wouldn't use the bidding system again for a good car, once the BIN button is pressed it seems like the buyer has control of your auction.

Hi. I was nervous about using ebay to sell my car a couple of weeks ago but It went a lot better than I thought.

I set a reserve of £700 which I would gladly have taken because the head gasket had blown. 2003 VW Polo.
I listed the maximum 12 photos and explained everything in detail (good and bad) about the car. Start price was 99p. 7 day listing.

After 20 mins I received about 7 offers but stated I was letting the auction run to the end. It steadily went up through the week and reached the set reserve price with 3 days remaining.
It eventually sold for £1320 and the winner picked it up less than 48 hours after, paying cash.
I wouldn't use paypal for a deposit and wouldn't demand money straight away.

Encourage potential buyers to view the car and be totally honest with faults the car may have in the listing. That way you should filter out the time wasters and people changing their mind after they have won.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!
  • I sold my last car on ebay. It was a bit of a shed so sold as spares or repair, but it had a little MOT and Tax. I started it for the price I could get for cashing in the Tax and the scrap value of the car.

I asked that the winner bidder get into contact within 48hours if the end of the auction, you win you buy. if you wanted to see the car before hand no problems just contact me, cash on collection or cheque (but cheque had to clear before you were getting the car). Plus I wanted the car gone in a week.

In the end no-one came to view it, had a number of bids - bloke turned up that saturday (or was it sunday can't remember) with cash, filled in the V5 and drove off

    job done
