Moving home, need help with o2

hello,
I am moving home in 2 weeks time and called o2 last night to get my broadband transferred over.
thats fine they say but then he checks my new address and says oh we cant do it as you will have less than 1meg speed and it isnt worth you having it. i was dissapointed but thought that was really honest of them. he also told me other providers would have the same problem.
so i had a look around to see what my other options were. looked on broadbandchecker and it reckons for my postcode i should get between 6-20mb. then i looked on other providers sites and most were saying i could get 10mb in my postcode area
i am so confused!!!
why would o2 tell me i cant get broadband and then everyone else says i can have it?????????

What options does samknows come up with?
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search
If you can get the info from there is may be worth phoning o2 back and asking them again0 -
I imagine it is the broadband availability bit i need to look at?
Broadband availability overview;
ADSL:Yes
SDSL:Yes
LLU services: Yes
Cable:Yes
Wireless:No
adsl, sdsl, llu, cable all have a nice green tick
wireless has a big red cross!!
real sorry but i am not tech savvy and dont really know what that means?!?!0 -
Post the results for the available LLU suppliers (bottom right column). Makse sure you search by number, not by postcode, which is less accurate.
Then use the exchange mapping facility on samknows for the actual address.
Have you tried putting the actual number (not the postcode) into the O2 availability checker and if so what does that show you? If it says 'yes', then another call to 02 is required...No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
LLU operator presence What is this?
AOL:Enabled
O2 / Be:Enabled
C&W / Bulldog:Enabled as of 20/05/2005
Edge Telecom:Not available
Entanet:Not available
Lumison:Not available
NewNet:Not available
Node4:Not available
Orange:Enabled as of 30/05/2006
Pipex:Not available
Sky / Easynet:Enabled as of 23/08/2006
Smallworld:Not available
TalkTalk (CPW):Enabled
Tiscali:Enabled as of 15/03/2006
Tiscali TV:Enabled as of 15/03/2006
WB Internet:Not available
Zen Internet:Not available
unfortunatley there is no phone number attached to the house yet0 -
i just tried to put in the exact house number and it cant find my address!
however according to the map the exchange is only 2 roads away0 -
OK, so 02 is available LLU on your exchange. Is there not an existing number at the property you can use to check (presumably you are taking your old number with you)?
Sounds like a flaw in the postcode database. Try another house number in the same street? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

No there is no phone number as the property hasnt been lived in for a few months and the seller stopped the bt line
very strangely the mapping cannot find any house number i type in for the street. but it does say the exchange is 144m away which is not what the o2 guy was telling me last night. he was saying i must be far from the exchange and the signal is weak as it has travelled a long way??
one thought - i am on the old o2 package at the moment do you think they are trying to get rid of me so they dont have to give me the reduced price!?!?!?0 -
sorry just to add i have just looked at the sky broadband address checker with my house number and postcode and they say
"Currently we estimate that the maximum download speed your line could support is 10 - 20Mb"0 -
The geographical distance from the exchange is not necessarily the distance the cabling runs, but if everyone else is giving 6-20Mbps indications, then that does indicate an O2 error.
Do O2 recognise the postcode and address? if they don't, you'll have problems signing up anyway from the billing point of view-they require a 'valid' address that their system recognises. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
thanks, i will definately be able to call them back tonight with abit more knowledge and will ask them to double check.0
