Do I really need a service

Have a Vauxhall Vectra SRI Diesel, Dec 2008
Bought it this time last year from a dealer with 9000 on clock. They serviced it.
Have only done 8000 miles and SP come up on the dash which advises a new service is needed. Called Vauxhall and they said you need annually irrespective of the miles done. Seems a bit excessive to me.
Any advice ? Thanks

Mileage or date whatever comes first.
Irrespective of mileage, fluids and components have a limited life span
Don't get it serviced if you think it's excessive. Just don't moan if it blows upIf Adam and Eve were created first
.Does that mean we are all inbred0 -
You are kidding aren't you OP?0

At a further 8,000 miles, it probably needs an Interim Service (Oil & Filter change), which is what the light might mean. I wouldn't call 8,000-miles between oil changes particularly excessive, especially for a diesel!0

Get it serviced, or you'll lose the warranty.0
-
As its still not over the warranty period you will need to service it to manufacturer guidelines which is yearly or 12000 miles usually0
-
You'll make the cost of the service back, sometimes several times over, if you service it.
If you don't, a large number of buyers (myself included) would be wanting to bid you. Heavily. Think 20-25% of the car's value.0 -
You'll invalidate the 3rd year dealer warranty if you don't get it serviced. The man without a signature.0

Just hope yours isn't fitted with a DPF.
The engine in your car is a bit, er, fragile, I certainly wouldn't want to skimp on a simple oil and filter change.
If you don't want to pay up for a main dealer service, then just change the oil and all the filters. That is pretty much all a main dealer service is anyway.
Though penny pinching on a 3 yr old car isn't really money saving in the long run.0 -

Are you for real, do you really think a car is worth a 1/4 of its value due to a missing stamp in a book, especially when the unscrupulous just buy the stamp from eBay anyway.
My Mondeo has FSH till I bought it and since then I have serviced it myself, with the oil change interval reduced from Fords 12.5k to my usual 6k.
If you offered me 25% of the value because of this I would laugh and walk back inside.0 -
Cheers Guys, will get it done on Friday.0
