Here's the ping result from the wireless windows xp laptop.

Result looks just as bad although when i use the interent from the laptop I don't really notice it being slow the way I do when on the mac!0 -
the command in XP CMD prompt is "tracert www.bethere.co.uk" without the quotes......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
its tracert in windows604!0

BTW, have you tried rebooting your router ??? Went to a callout on Sat, their ping was 800-odd ms, rebooted router and back down to 50-odd......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Thanks again guys. The tracert in windows is showing lots of 100+ ms as well (won't allow me to copy and paste the info).
Just going to try and reboot the router by turning it off and on again for 30 secs0 -
just tried reboot on the router both via unplugging and also the paperclip method, but seem to still be getting a bad ping result http://www.speedtest.net/result/1148799323.png0

just a thought, try several of the other speedtest servers, because each of them will give different results, e.g. if I use manchester, milton keynes and maidenhead, I get 26ms, which is the same as if I tracert bbc.co.uk, however, if I use London (namesco) the ping reads 80ms.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Yeah but regardelss of the speedtest result the interent does seem to be running slow.0 -
Perhaps it's just me but try this
1) try pinging to say your gaming host or bbc.co.uk from an online ping server
2) ping the online ping server from your pc and see what that's like
3) Ask yourself why is ping time important
4) Research into Internet Protocols and form your own opinions
c.f. - ICMP (udp) and Useful work eg FTP/POP/HTTP (oh I know udp is faster than TCP)
the ping(ED: shurely{Junior ED: surely you mean surely} you mean thing) is it's all relative, wait until we all go IPv6 then let's see what is that's going to bring.
