  • Yes.

Do a tracert to your ISP to see where the delay is.

  • A what!?

    sorry I'm technophobic
  • What operating system do you have?

  • I'm on a Leopard mac using o2 free broadband router (Thomson). internet is slow on both wireless and ethernet and seems okay on my other windows pc.
  • Method 1:

click on the "Network Utility" icon within the "Utilities" folder, then click on the "traceroute" tab.

If you're running a Mac with an older operating system than OS X, you'll probably need to download a traceroute program such as WhatRoute

    Alternate method:

OS X comes with an app named Terminal which gives you full access to the BSD shell.

At the prompt, type "traceroute www.bethere.co.uk" (without the quotation marks).

It will then list a series of hops from your mac to your router then the path through various internet servers to bethere. It will show in milliseconds how long each hop takes. Copy/paste the results here.

  • OK, you've got a 100ms delay from your mac to your router. This should be < 1ms. Is that wireless or wired?

That is consistent with you not having the same delay on your windows PC.

Can you repeat the same from your PC please. You will need to open the command prompt. what OS is it?
    604!
  • Thanks Tox. That was wired. Just tried via wireless on the mac, but get the following:

    Traceroute has started ...

    traceroute: unknown host traceroute https://www.bethere.co.uk

Trying the windows laptop now, will report back in a minute...
  • sorry the pc is Windows XP
  • just tried typing "traceroute www.bethere.co.uk" in the command run box but that doesn't seem to work. How do i traceroute on the windows xp? Thanks
