How do you make it for half the price?
what is your recipe and cost?
How much does your recipe weigh? Ignoring the pasta gaining weight when cooked there is 1.8kg of food for £3.78 which is not to bad value.

Not having a go, generally interested.
The beef I would say is of meduim quailty. British and fresh but not the leanest.

Probably if you make it with seriously low quality ingredients...

  • OP, do you find that the rest of your family tend to eat out a lot?

    Only kidding... ;)

TBH I think the ASDA meal looks to be really cheap anyway
    January GC: £64.81/£80.00
    February GC: £24.60£80.00
  • Asda is cheap ingredients anyway. Their on brand products are poor quality compared to other supermarkets. I bought a chosen by you lasagne and it was rubbish. I would rather buy Sainsburys feed family for a fiver rather than the Asda give you family malnutrition for £5 anyday

What gets me is the price of the items adds up to £3.78, yet they advertise it as a meal for under a fiver.

Why didn't they advertise it as a meal for under 4 quid, or a meal for under £3.80?

I might just make a note of the items and see how much they would cost, at normal price in Tesco or Morrisons.

Would be interesting to see just how much of a bargain it really is.
  • I often wonder how the trading standards allow them to get away with bull-crap?!?

I put the items into mysupermarket.

    Here are the results:
    ASDA - £3.78
    Tesco - £4.58
    Sainsbury's - £4.94
    Ocado - £5.59

I don't understand what people's problem is with this? How is it a con?

I didn't say it was a con, I simply asked why they advertise an offer that cost £3.78 for "under a fiver". Why not advertise it at under 4 quid, or under £3.80?

I didn't use mysupermarket, but did have a quick look on the Tesco web site, and only the mince was cheaper.

it was £2.20 in Tesco, so you'd be better off if you got the mince at asda and the rest of the stuff at Tesco.

I'm not saying it's a con, but like all supermarket meal deals, it pays to shop around for the individual items and not get sucked in by the "total price" hype.
