Vodafone....The Good....The Bad....

Afternoon all,

Pushing my luch here with 2 questions!

Firstly, started a new contract under my girlfriends name (changing bank details to my bank after first bill) just wondering if you think i've been ripped off?? (you know how it is, you get all excited you forget to take a step back!)

Free Nokia N73....1000 txts....500 mins x-network anytime(with stop the clock)....18 months (upgrade after 12) £50 cash back all for the price of £40 a month. Good? Bad? (can it be changed if its bad?)

Secondly, my girlfriend started her vodafone contract about 5 months ago and they gave her a dodgy number! She keeps getting phone calls asking for "Nick" and messages from Lloyds TSB demanding for her to call them ASAP, when she does and explains they say there is nothing they can do. Currently my girlfriends mum is dealing (badly) with it. I want to step in and sort it, want can i do?

Thank MSEs

Alex

It's not too bad a deal, you could do better online but would have to deal with periodic cashbacks - I'm presuming here that you've been offered cashback on the spot. I took a similar offer with O2 a few weeks back and I'm personally quite happy with it.

As for the annoying calls which are probably due to your number being mistaken for someone else's, I think it would be best to call up Vodafone and ask if they could do anything about it. Old mobile numbers are recycled 6 months after their old owner disconnects their line, so your g/f is likely experiencing the effect of this practice.

It doesn't seem like to bad a deal to me. Usually vodafone will et you change price plan after a few months, can't remember if it's 3 or 6 months.

As for the calls - what reehsetin said ^ ^

Telephone Preference service details for landlines

And for mobiles which is nice :)

Here you go - phone and mail URL's

Do you know you can register mobile telephone numbers?

The Telephone Preference Service can accept the registration of mobile telephone numbers, however it is important to note that this will prevent the receipt of live marketing voice calls but not SMS (text) messages. This is because under the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2004 it is unlawful to send an unsolicited sales and marketing text message. Telemarketing companies who send SMS messages need your prior permission. There is no obligation therefore for companies sending SMS messages to people who have agreed to receive them, to screen against the TPS file. If you wish to stop receiving SMS marketing messages, please send an 'opt-out' request to the company involved. The Information Commissioners Office (ICO) is responsible for the enforcement of these regulations. Please click on the useful links page for their details.

  • The TPS is a useful service for preventing incoming company calls.

With regards to the calls for "Nick", if these are coming from a personal number and are what could be considered nusiance or malicious, it would be possible to get a crime reference number from a local police station. With a crime reference number Vodafone would be able to offer a free number change.

There's more information over on the Vodafone website at the following link:

  • thanks for the information everyone, i think that everyone wanting "nick" have found him and its just Lloyds who keep txting her.

I'll call vodafone this afternoon and sort out a number change if Lloyds won't stop
