Need to txt S Africa from work phone & pay for my txt
Hi there
My husband has gone to South Africa for a few months. I have a work phone so can't text his South African mobile without getting in to trouble.
I've found a site called M1 (dot) be that allows me to input a local number in to my work mobile which I use to text him from. My work mobile then gets charged the local call rate and I pay the difference via bulk credits.
However, this is still costing me £1.20 per text so I was hoping that someone would be able to recommend a cheaper alternative please?
Fingers crossed!

http://clickatell.com is a leading web-to-sms provider
. Register your phone with them and then buy a few credits. You can then send texts online but they will appear to be from your phone so replies will go straight to it.
Depending on which phone you have their are often apps for the phone that provide a similar service which save you have to use a website0 -
Buy a cheap pay as you go and use it just for texting. I know 3 have cheap rates for calls abroad, they might be worth investigating for cheap texts as well.
Alternatively o2 and t-Mobile have a booster add on for texts.====0 -
Can you not use something like sipgate, not sure how the sms works because I use voip with them.
But the sms tariff looks like it covers worldwide texts
Tariff Web SMS
Web-SMS 160 (160 characters, worldwide) 5.90 p/SMS
Web-SMS 310 (310 characters, worldwide) 11.80 p/SMS
Web-SMS 460 (460 characters, worldwide) 17.70 p/SMS0 -
Sign up to 18185. You register the mobile and then send the texts from your pc. The texts arrive as if they have been sent by your mobile. Each text costs a few pence, depending on the destination.
If you have a landline, and your OH has access to a landline, you can also make cheap calls (usually pennies) by registering the landline number you are calling from.
The bill is deducted from your credit card each month and you get an itemised breakdown online as you go along.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0
