Santander Isa but no linked account

Having banked with A & L for years without problem, I started hitting minor snags once Santander took over, and after reading of all the problems people were having on here I decided to close my current account and open with nat west. Unfortunately I didn't realise I couldn't access my ISA without a Santander account. (I know my mistake). I don't want to withdraw from ISA but am uncomfy that I effectively can't get at my money if needed.
I am now thinking of transferring the ISA to another provider, but am not sure about the timing. The interest is paid on the Santander ISA on March 1st. If I effect a transfer before then would I still get the interest or would I forfeit it? Alternatively if I leave the transfer till after that date and it doesn't take place till after the end of the tax year, would I still be open a new cash ISA for 2011/2012 as well as the ISA I transfer in to?
Any advice gratefully received.

Banks will nearly always pay interest up to the date of closure, if you close an account before the interest payment date. (If this doesn't happen, then it will have to be explicit in your T&Cs).

As long as you follow the correct ISA transfer process (i.e. ask the new bank to do the transfer) then your existing ISA will in no way effect your 2011/12 allowance. You can either pay your 2011/12 allowance into any existing ISA that you hold, or open a new one for it.
  • santander will transfere any amount of money out of your isa when you need it, to any bank account you tell them just phone them up and tel them how much you want. you dont have to have another account with santander. hope this helps
