5th post down confirms pp have put a hold on £16.My TV is broken!

I had the exact same email about a month ago. This was some TEN days after the completion of an auction, the item I sold had been sent and I had all but forgotten about the whole thing- thought it was a done deal, feedback left- the lot! Following paypals investigation I was advised that the payment had been returned to the buyer, so I was left with neither the goods or the monies. The only option I had left was to send another invoice. Luckily and out of the goodness of her heart I received an email from a very apologetic buyer offering to send a cheque. I didn't inquire as to the nature of the problem I was just relieved to get the money back.
It does beg the question though, how long after the completion of an auction and the subsequent payment, does paypal reserve the right to claw back the entire amount?
Hope you have a simular result.0 -
Thanks for all your help.
A quick update: I have been invited to join an ebay group on the site as it seems I am not the only one, they have 41 members already. I have had to contact the buyer's local police (Bradford in this case) with details of the transaction. I may even have to make a statement at a local police station.
All this because of £16....I think I may have to switch to this new auction site advertised on tv. I'm guessing they're going to be a whole lot safer (could they actually be worse than ebay?!).0 -
Hi,
I got sickeningly done out of £275 (that was the final value + postage of the item I sent) .... same as you, ten days later I receive that email from Paypal.
To make matters worse, afew days later I was sent a series of B**LSH*T emails from them which bore no relation at all to the original email they sent (other than to tell me I had lost £275 basically) no explanation, these later emails weren't even coherent!
I phoned them up (which took an age to get through to) and the drone on the phone basically told me there was nothing I could do as the buyer's account wasn't eligible for paypal protection .... so I GOT SCREWED!??!
TOTALY !!!!ED OFF. Don't know what to do next. Especially as it was 10 days before the original "HOLD" email that I sent the items (by next day special delivery !!!!!!). Obviously some criminals.
But Paypal make it seem like it is all so secure .... no hint of a mention to wait ten days before sending items, no hint of a mention of potential fraudsters and how to spot them .... it's completely negligent of them to say the very least .... people sell very high value stuff through them in good faith, and they don't even have the decency to offer up a full and proper explanation for why your £275 has been nicked back !?!?
Any advice on taking action as a group perhaps against them?0 -

They do explain how to protect yourself.
To summarise:
Only ever send valuable items to the CONFIRMED ADDRESS shown in the paypal transaction.
Always get adequate insurance and tracking for valuable items. My TV is broken!
