  • Never had the above email.

But it could be that the paypal user had a stolen card or the person who bought it reported it to the credit card company as a transaction they aren't aware of.

Did the paypal user have a confirmed address? If so you would be eligible for seller protection this depends on if you despatched the item using a signed for delivery.
  • Yes, been there done that and didn't get my money back. Hopefully it was a confirmed address and you sent by trackable means? If so you should be able to claim your money back. If not I'm afraid you will have lost out.

    Sickening isn't it?

Pretty sure its real, they had all the details of the buyer I just removed them for privacy. I have checked paypal too though and there has been a temporary hold on £16.
I sent the item via Royal Mail Recorded delivery.

Was the item eligible for seller protection?

right well could take a couple of weeks to get sorted out.

to put my mind at rest Id check out the buyer and his feedback. Does he have consistent feedback from other members up until his purchase from yourself?

A classic of a hijacked acocunt is a period of inactivity before the fraudulant transaction as a lot of the time hackers target accounts which appear to have been left for a few months.

Would someone go to the trouble of hijacking an account and then buy a £16 item?

I wonder how many of these transaction problems are due to people looking through their statements and forgetting purchases they've made.

I wouldnt worry about it, esp if its a UK buyer. The payment has bounced on their card and paypal will tell them to pay for it otherwise their account will be frozen until they do so.

I just dont like using Paypal at all. They seem to make the rules up as they go along. My brother bought an expensive comic(approx $5,500) from a US seller via paypal which turned out to be restored and so he returned the comic. The seller tried to refund him the money via Paypal but they looked at the amount, thought there was something fuuny going on and has suspended my brothers account for 180 days. So the money just has to sit there for that length of time before he can touch it. Absolutely incredible.
  • I would forward the email to spoof@paypal. They will check it and see if it is legitimate or not, and let you know. Paypal do do some weird things sometimes though, so best to check it out before you do anything.
