Orange vs Carphone Warehouse

Hi Guys,

Decided to plump for the Desire HD.

I think I'm going to move from O2 to Orange, purely because O2 are offering me nothing, and they don't stock the HD anyway.

My question is - is it really any different buying straight from Orange rather than through Carphone Warehouse? I've never used CPW before.

Orange offer the Desire HD for £22.98 a month (300 mins, unlimited txts, 500mb internet) and £149.99 for the phone, CPW £25.54 for same deal, but free phone. Saving me a nice little sum over the 24 months. Do I get the same benefits if I sign up through CPW though?

Thanks

  • If you get it from CPW it will be unlocked and with that you get all the software updates as they are released and no branding such as Orange home screen start up. Take a look at the deals though just to make sure.
Take a look at the deals, they it is offered on other networks and i think you can get it on o2 . See here

As for benefits your contract will be with Orange or whoever you go through. You upgrade will also be with Orange but when it comes to renew you can go back to CPW if you want.

If its unlocked it will have a higher sell on value to.

Thanks for that, if that's the case then I'll go for the contract through CPW then, as it saves me a fair amount of money.

I would ideally like to stay with O2, but they don't stock the Desire HD and I don't think they'd even attempt to match that deal. I can upgrade on Thursday, so I'll find out then, but I'm not too hopeful.
  • Have you tried calling orange direct? I often find that they will match deals from other companies and might even offer you a better deal - maybe more internet usage? They also can offer other perks that they don't advertise on the orange website.

No I haven't tried that yet, thanks for the advice though. I was going to wait until Thursday before I do anything, just to see if O2 offer me anything. But from what I've read their retention offers are poor at the moment.

I'll definitely get in touch with them then, thanks :)

Just tried calling Orange and they wouldn't budge. Seemed like they were playing some game in the background too, I don't think the guy really cared what I had to say!
