My house in the UK has its gas and electricity supplied by Powergen and I pay £100 per month. This is based on what I paid to my old suppliers (Scottish Power and NPower). I changed to Powergen in June.
I have just had the first statement since the heating has been switched on and it is around HALF of what Scottish Power were charging me last year. I have rung Powergen and they assure me this is accurate based on the meter readings I sent them last week (I send them readings every month). My son who lives in the house with two lodgers says that the heating has been on as normal (on its timer) for this time of the year.
I'm very pleased..:j ..I just hope they haven't made a mistake!

Its funny how no one replies when a supplier gets praised.
Then again £100 a month for an autumn / early winter quarter ain't that good. I'd like to see a follow up when the winter bill arrives.
BTW my central heating still ain't on more than the odd hour in the evening.

It wasn't £100 a month.
That's what I've been paying per month based on what I paid to Scottish Power.
The bill to Powergen was £68. Last year at the same time I paid £112 to Scottish Power.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

There is absolutely no way that a change of company can reduce bill from £112 last year to £68 this year by a reduction in tariff - especially when all prices have increased in the past 12 months.
You have either used much less gas and electricity, or you were paying too much to Scottish Power(to pay back a debit balance possibly, or estimated readings) or you are paying too little to Powergen.
All you need to do is look at the unit prices(kWh) for both companies to make a comparison.0 -
I no longer have my Scottish Power Bill. I was not paying back a debit balance as I rang readings through every month, and they worked it out there and then on the phone and I paid by debit card. I did get a substantial (£75) refund from them when I left.
I have told Powergen that I will keep my direct debit as it is until after the winter, and then if it is still the same difference, I will reduce it and ask for a refund.
There are different lodgers in my house this year, maybe they are using less power, although my son says the CH has been on just the same.
I personally think Powergen have made a mistake (although they agree with my readings). I hope they haven't!
We'll have to wait and see.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Check your bill - If the readings match up then there is no error.0

Hi Gal, I haven't had the latest itemised bill yet, but the ones I do have the readings match.
When I spoke to the girl on the phone, she read my latest readings out to me from what was on the screen in front of her (they agreed with the readings I'd sent in) and said the latest bill was based on these readings.
I'll not count any chickens yet though, which is why I've not lowered the DD.
I may ask for a refund though and put it in my high interest account in case they ask for it!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Well I would wait for the bill - Showing this - Not defending powergen but if the readings were read back then chances are everything is fine.
I work for them and if anyone calls in with readings I put the bill though and confirm it with them before they hang up.
Hopefully your person done the same0 -

I hope so!
I will say I am very impressed with Powergen's Customer Service so far (having done customer service work myself I know how much more satisfaction it gives the customer if it is done in a professional manner).
The worst customer service I have had from a power company is NP****.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Thanks for postive comments - They have been shifting out dead wood since I arrived at the beginning of the year.
The EW league tables confirm that since December 2005 powegen has had the largest turnaround and is on course to challenge for first place - They are currently in second.
Also last month powergen had the lowest number of complaints recieved since EW started keeping records.
So its good to see the results. Glad you approve0 -
