Advice re. internet usage abroad

Hi recently returned from Egypt to find that my monthly bill had risen from the usual contract amount of £17 to £272.00 taken directly from my account. I have checked my bill and have spoken with Orange who confirmed that as the amount has been taken off my account, there is nothing that they can do to bring this down. I did use the internet abroad but don't understand how it could be this amount, I suspect my satio continued to look for the internet when I thought it was off. Does anyone have any hints about how to approach this. Concerned that Orange did not proactively check whether this usage was correct despite being told previously that I did not have to phone them each time I went abroad!
