Teenage stupidity and facebook...

Just seen a status on one of my younger facebook friends profiles, it's basically one of these generic 'copy this to your status' things, but its asking how good a friend are you.
What is my middle name, date of birth, eye colour, pets name, favourite instrument, mothers name etc etc
I had to explain gently that the things her friends were posting to her very public profile were all a sure fire way to have her identity stolen, emails hacked etc etc
Got to love teens, zero sense of danger.

Woooosh, for a minute I would give evertyone my middle name. It is squealor! As for the eyes, they are fading fast, as for the Cat, you can have him, as for mothers name, I just love it at the bank when it says, Your Password-Secret word is too short. Well Mumsie only had two letters in her name.
Still, admire the innocence!0 -

Facebook isn't at all dangerous if you are sensible about what you post and keep your profile set to friends only.0 -
If you don't like Facebook, then post your account number and sort code here to show your solidaritySquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
My army friends, when not taking the tanks on the streets of Cairo, would like to give you their fair share of the banana republics millions.
Just leave the usual details by way of return0 -
I think the problem is that facebook sometimes change the rules and untighten privacy without warning -pulliptears wrote: »Facebook isn't at all dangerous if you are sensible about what you post and keep your profile set to friends only.

I think its good to check your settings on a regular basis anyway, just to make sure that only information you want in the public domain is actually there.
The problem is, and the reason why the above is good practice, is that there is a new 'warning' every day about privacy and Facebook stealing your first born male son etc. Always pays to keep an eye on things.0 -

Yes but some people just do not care. I have experienced so many cases where people have posted in anger and sometimes innocence and caused family/friends rifts for example.
Someone I know had to come off there as they were told by their employer that everyone associated with a certain person would be investigated.
I have also heard of accounts being hacked into. I would rather avoid all this and maintain my privacy.0
